Sydney Metro is leading Australia’s biggest public transport infrastructure program, developing, delivering and operating a new world-class metro railway system for Sydney.
Australia’s first fully-automated metro opened in the first half of 2019, to be extended into the Sydney city in 2024 in a $20 billion-plus program of works.

As a new NSW Government statutory authority, Sydney Metro has been tasked with developing and delivering metro railways, and managing their operations. Sydney Metro also leads the development of vibrant station precincts to meet customer and community needs, transforming the way Sydney travels and helping shape the future of Australia’s largest city.

The opportunity
Reporting functionally to the Associate Director Engineering Assurance & Standards, you will manage the provision of systems engineering, integration, technical and safety assurance provided by Authorised Engineering Organisations (AEOs) to Sydney Metro. You will implement an assurance framework, processes and tools to ensure agreed product outcomes by Sydney Metro and contractors, to ensure regulatory, accreditation obligations and contract performance requirements are met.

As an embedded resource for the Sydney Metro projects, your key accountabilities will include;
  • Managing the delivery of engineering assurance documentation, technical standards, design control, configuration management and reporting, to meet business and legislative requirements.
  • Monitoring the quality and appropriateness of technical specifications and specialist technical input to ensure adherence to project outcomes and performance requirements.
  • Facilitating technical problem solving to enable regulatory and accreditation obligations and contract performance requirements are met.
  • Providing timely advice on key governance, planning and design stream issues
  • Determining and undertaking design review, verification and validation of technical aspects of all projects to ensure best practice in systems integration and technical assurance.

Essential requirements
  • Degree level qualification in Engineering from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, rail safety law, rail accreditation, technical standards and codes of practice in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Specific knowledge of the competency and skill requirements affecting rail services and assets.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in Systems Engineering, Safety Assurance, and Systems Assurance.
  • Knowledge of the Transport Network Assurance Committee (TNAC) and Configuration Control Board (CCB)/Network Assurance Committee (NAC) requirements desired.

This is a Transport Service Grade 9 role ($129,349 - $144,870), plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
