The Power Grids business offers power and automation products, systems, service and software solutions across the generation, transmission and distribution value chain. An exciting new role within the Grid Automation team, is now available for an experienced Control Engineer. The primary responsibility will be the control system design of Microgrid or BESS Systems across diverse applications (e.g. Mining, Oil & Gas, grid scale storage, Commercial & Light Industrial) To execute project control design for projects with medium to high complexity within the Grid Edge Solutions, Microgrids, Battery Energy Storage and Automation businesses. Coordinate and execute control engineering assignments within the project scope and value chain - efficiently, cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements and business objectives. Other key responsibilities include: Work closely with the nominated Project team and Business functions to lead control engineering activities to ensure projects are delivered within the boundaries of the specified project schedules and costs. Work with overseas product management, RnD and engineering centers to execute control engineering deliverables and return continuous improvement and standardization opportunities Apply design and drawing packages for electrical control and system design for Microgrid Control Systems and Battery Energy Storage Systems Plan, coordinate and manage day-to-day activities associated with delivery of engineering services in order to meet scope requirements of projects or services. Provide control and technical improvement concepts through innovative thinking and process knowledge. Maintain excellent customer relationships and focus on lifting customer satisfaction. Complete limited domestic or international travel to support project activity, commissioning or start-up demands.

Your Responsibilities

  • Acts as a control technical lead, prepares/approves design deliverables. Reviews all project documents for conformity and quality assurance. Anticipates and solves unprecedented problems, crucial issues and unique conditions. Serves as a specialist in the application of advanced concepts and methods.
  • Perform Control Systems Engineering software-focused, including contract review, scoping, system configuration, factory and site testing requirements for control and SCADA system software.
  • Ability to program IEC61131 based languages, knowledge of inverter-based control theory and SCADA systems.
  • Support design of systems to meet the functional design specifications. Perform service support and/or system software maintenance support
  • Assists in preparing proposal/presentation of engineering projects/programs (provision of bills of materials, estimated engineering hours, etc.).
  • Supports Contract Managers in issuing claims (new/change in scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications, etc.). Provides quality solutions as per customer requirement and delivers within budget and contract. Ensures adherence to safety standards and mitigates potential risks.
  • Creates work plans and cost estimates in own area of responsibility Reviews and approves scope, budget and schedule for assignments and ensures quality deliverables on time and within targeted cost. Improves effectiveness of work plan in collaboration with other functions.
  • Creates and executes strategies for risk and opportunity management in one’s area of responsibility. Identifies and manages contract risks taking preventive/corrective actions to resolve any contract/quality/program/ cost issues. Reports any outstanding issues to management, along with recommendations for resolution.
  • Works with the customer to shape and deliver solutions and seeks customer feedback to drive and deliver improvements. Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Collaborates with the Supply Chain function to ensure that technical requirements for equipment or services are communicated and agreed on with potential suppliers. Provides technical evaluation of supplier proposals and accepts as fit for purpose supplied equipment or services
  • Ensures sharing of application know-how internally, able to support customer training, testing and troubleshooting of Automation Systems and other applications as required.
  • Reviews, develops and documents quality standards, processes, tools and techniques. Ensures that engineering activities comply with required safety regulations and contractual requirements. Contributes towards continuous improvements of processes and tools for engineering efficiency.

Your background
  • A Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Engineering
  • Minimum experience of 5 years and high level of technical aptitude in electrical engineering and industrial software technologies
  • Ability to develop understanding of Power Grid Automation systems and/or Power Generation
  • Advanced computer skills using engineering software applications
  • Demonstrates an interest in and understanding of others; Adapts to the team and builds team spirit; Recognizes the contribution of others; Listens, consults others and communicates proactively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and high attention to detail
  • Establishes good relationships with customers and staff; Builds wide and effective networks of contacts inside and outside the organization; Relates well to people at all levels
