Our Integrated Systems Operational Unit (OU) is at the forefront of emerging projects, products, systems and technologies which is paramount to Northrop Grumman Australia’s growth strategy. A new opportunity has been created as part of this growth – the Engineering Manager – Integrated Systems.

As a proven leader and experienced people manager, the Engineering Manager will take responsibility and accountability for the application and performance of the engineering capability for project captures and execution conducted within the Integrated Systems OU. As a senior position on the OU leadership team, the Engineering Manager will hold overall engineering and technical delegation from the Northrop Grumman Australia Director of Engineering and assign appropriate delegations and authorisations across the OU for Project Chief Engineers, SEIT Leads and other Engineering Managers.

The successful candidate will have had similar experience in leadership roles and will be pivotal in contributing to the overall Integrated Systems OU strategy, capability planning and workforce development. You will have demonstrated experience in the delivery of successful projects and capability improvements with an eye for quality and continuous improvement.

Ideally, you will have held similar roles leading complex systems integration and software development teams and projects in C4ISR, Tactical Data Links, Battle Management, Air & Missile Defence or similar domains.

Our preferred locations for this role are Canberra or Brisbane.

Key duties & responsibilities:

  • Providing support to the Integrated Systems OU leadership team and contribute to strategy and capability planning
  • Functional lead for engineering and technology capabilities for the OU
  • Responsibility and accountability for the application and performance of the engineering capability
  • Leading engineering improvement projects and activities
  • Supporting business development and capture pursuits with the development and review of engineering and technical strategies and responses
  • Developing appropriate collaboration opportunities, relationships and activities with the wider NGA and NGC organisations locally and internationally
  • Providing senior guidance and collaboration towards recruitment, development and retention initiatives of the engineering and technical capability
  • Assures appropriate application of systems engineering and project engineering execution model to projects
  • Ensures quality and completeness of program engineering, technical artefacts and deliverables
  • Supporting staff by providing exemplary leadership characteristics as well as mentoring and coaching

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree qualified Engineer (Software, Systems Engineering, IT, Computer Science or similar)
  • Chartered Professional Engineer and Registration to the relevant governing bodies
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role managing complex defence-related projects
  • Qualifications and/or training in Systems Engineering practices
  • Must be an Australian citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance (NV1)

Desired experience

  • Experience mentoring multidisciplinary teams
  • Leading and interfacing with teams over disparate locations
  • Experience working with/for Defence Project Offices or System Program Offices
