JOB DESCRIPTION

We are currently seeking a senior engineer with extensive background in the electricity distribution industry to join our Network Strategy and Non-Network Solutions team in a newly created Senior DSO/DERMS Engineer position.

The role will be responsible for the development of Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS) and Distribution System Operator (DSO) capability to cost effectively facilitate non-network solutions and Distributed Energy Resources (DER) participation on our electricity networks.

The ideal candidate for this role will have an extensive background and experience with the electricity industry, with exposure to multiple areas including asset management, technical operation and market operation. You will have a passion for finding new and innovative solutions to the current and future challenges that face the integration of DER into our networks. This candidate will also be an expert communicator and team player, with experience in building and maintain positive relationships with staff, peers and senior management.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Participate in technical industry forums such as API development working groups to positively influence industry developments related to DSO and DERMS.
  • Develop expert knowledge of DSO/DERMS functional and technical requirements arising from market developments and articulate implications for the Citipower, Powercor and United Energy distribution networks
  • Provide input to the development of roles and responsibilities for distribution network businesses operating as a DSO and interface requirements with emerging market operator arrangements and aggregator business models
  • Define sequential and prioritised investment decisions, aligned to the business strategies to enhance our networks' capacity to operate and manage greater levels of distributed energy resources
  • Develop business cases in addition to project manage trials as required and provide regular management reporting on scope, cost and performance measures
  • Stay abreast of vendor solution and capability developments related to DSO, DERMS and ADMS platforms in Australia and overseas - in addition to keeping the business informed on developments in the space via presentations
  • Develop pilot initiatives and trials, designed to transition to BAU, and continuously improve DSO/DERMS capability

The successful applicant will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, technology, commercial or related disciplines
  • Qualifications in project management and agile delivery models would be advantageous
  • Extensive knowledge of utility technology architecture and platforms
  • Proven experience developing innovative solutions in an energy or technology environment
  • Well-developed industry collaboration, influencing and advocacy skills
  • Proven ability to develop and project manage new technology or innovative initiatives within agreed scope, time and financial constraints
