As one of Australia’s largest pure coal producers continues with its growth initiatives, a vacancy has arisen for a Mining Engineer to join their open cut mine site in regional QLD. This respected coal producer has substantially grown through acquiring other profitable mines and they are now investing into ensuring the company’s values, systems and culture are unified across all sites.

In this newly created position, you will be responsible to manage the life of mine planning, reserve estimation and reporting, mining technical standards and the provision of operational expertise to support the open cut mining operations. You will play an integral role in project evaluation studies and corporate development activities.

Reporting to the Tech Services Manager, your key accountabilities will include:

  • Prepare life of mine plans and provide assurance that operational plans and activities conform with life of mine plans
  • Prepare and report reserve estimates
  • Provide mining engineering expertise and input to project evaluation studies
  • Lead scoping, prefeasibility and feasibility studies for internal projects, as required by the leadership team
  • Perform mining-related due diligence assessments of acquisition targets
  • Identify and evaluate key value drivers and significant risks and opportunities arising from life of mine planning, reserve estimation, project studies and due diligence assessments
  • Facilitate superior operating performance at the client’s mine sites by providing assistance, guidance, mentoring and assurance for mining activities
  • Develop and continuously improve internal mining systems, standards, guidelines and procedures
  • Establish and maintain constructive working relationships across site and functional groups

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Degree Qualifications in Mining Engineering
  • Operational and mine planning experience in open cut coal mining operations
  • Substantial experience in an coal mining operation, ideally gained through a combination of site or corporate roles
  • Experience in project evaluation studies
  • Proficiency in mine planning software (Deswik, Vulcan etc.) and Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Project)
  • A results oriented and energetic style coupled with a practical common sense approach
  • Demonstrated organisational and planning skills including an ability to manage competing priorities to meet agreed deadlines
  • Well-developed verbal communication, presentation and report writing skills
