About IPRO

BHP Western Australia Iron Ore’s Integrated Production and Remote Operations (IPRO) team manages the Iron Ore supply chain via scheduling, forecasting, deviation management, controlling and inventory accounting across mine, rail and port operations. With an over-arching focus on safety, the IPRO team brings dedication, innovation and values to execute and improve productivity, safety and environmental impact.

About The Role

This position sits within the Production Scheduling team that falls under the wider IPRO department and is responsible for generating the 2-year to weekly mine schedules as well as the corresponding mine designs. As an Engineer Mine (Design) you will play a key role in creating an executable production schedule and mine designs for all enabling activities, identifying risk and opportunities, managing change and communicating the operating strategy without compromising on quality and sustainability, whilst maximising productivity.

Reporting to the Superintendent Production Scheduling, the Engineer Mine (Design) will play an integral role by:

  • Ensuring that mine schedules and mine development is well aligned with the long-term direction whilst at the same time validating that longer-term direction is appropriate to operational constraints.
  • Seeking to continuously improve both efficiency and value of the process through work planning practices and procedures, as well as identifying opportunities for efficiencies in the operation
  • Lead and assist with productivity by design initiatives intended to leverage substantial business savings across the mines from optimised pit and haulage designs.
  • Identifying and implementing cultural and process improvement initiatives within the team/operation
  • Ensuring that risk in the mine plan is proactively identified, mitigated and where required adequately controlled
  • Ensuring sound engagement of key stakeholders both with regards to gathering plan inputs and the communication of plan outputs


About You

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:
  • A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or suitable industry experience
  • Experience in mine design and short term mine scheduling would be highly advantageous
  • Experience in key Mine Design activities, across all time horizons, to enable and optimise Mine Scheduling activities
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills are required to influence stakeholders in the delivery of positive business outcomes
  • Extensive knowledge of CAD software packages is essential (such as Vulcan) whilst functional knowledge of Mine Scheduling software (such as Alastri or XACT) is favourable

  • C class drivers’ licence


Location

Working on a Fly in Fly out basis at our South Flank operation, you will enjoy outstanding facilities at the Mulla Mulla village including; a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, netted soccer court, tennis and basketball court, golf simulator and recreation room including a pool table, darts, table tennis, TV and DVD player.

This position is offered on a FIFO 9/5 roster, however in challenging the way we work we are also able to offer the opportunity for employees to work one or more days in Perth, to support our flexible work options.
