Illawarra Metallurgical Coal (IMC) is a long term and leading coking coal supplier which operates two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.

About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent Process Control and Automation (PCA), the purpose of the role is to provide specialist Engineering Support to IMC fixed plants for the management and improvement of their process control & automation systems, through executing improvements to these systems in support of site priorities and in line with the IMC-wide PCA strategy.

Other accountabilities include:

  • Conducting the performance monitoring of the IMC fixed plant control systems including any improvements made; generating corrective actions and executing these actions once approved
  • Supporting their assigned Process Area(s) during their Daily Area Reviews, Weekly Area Improvement Review and Planning Meetings, and in compiling and maintaining their Area Improvement Plans; focusing on identifying corrective actions and improvement opportunities to address PCA performance issues within the Process Area(s)
  • Supporting the Superintendent PCA in identifying and defining PCA improvement projects
  • Supporting the Superintendent PCA in preparing for, chairing, and managing actions from the Fortnightly PCA Collaboration meeting
  • Providing input to the Superintendent PCA for the preparation and design of IMC-wide PCA processes and procedures;
  • Contributing technical input to the Superintendent PCA compiling and finalising the PCA Digital Road Map
  • Contributing material for and executing assigned actions from the Monthly Collaboration and Projects Meeting between PCA and IMC Technology
  • Executing approved changes and supporting the mine sites in compliance with the agreed SLAs
  • Filing error reports, submitting tickets, and executing corrective actions issued by IMC Technology as part of resolved tickets
  • Working with Coordinator(s) and Superintendent(s) to integrate planned changes in to the 13-week Schedule and subsequent plans leading up to execution
  • Supporting the Superintendent PCA in the compilation and stewardship of their portion of the IMC Budget; delivering their portion(s) of the budget to deliver results, on time and on budget
  • Ensuring unified application of PCA processes and practices across IMC
This position will be based at the South32 Wollongong Innovation Campus operations which are in the southern coalfields of New South Wales, near the coastal city of Wollongong and approximately 75 kilometres south and southwest of Sydney.

About you
  • Relevant tertiary Engineering qualifications in either Electrical, Computer or Mechatronics
  • Experience with PLC, SCADA and MES systems
  • Preferred experience with Rockwell ControlLogix and Citect Scada experience
  • Exposure to contractor Management
  • Budget maintenance and forecasting experience
  • Mining or heavy industry experience required with Coal Preparation Plants experience advantageous
