The Role

Ernest Henry Mining currently has an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer within the Underground Fixed Plant Mechanical Maintenance department. Reporting to the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining fixed plant, operating in a sub-level caving environment.

The permanent full-time position is offered as a locally based role in Cloncurry, working a five (5) days on, two (2) days off, four (4) days on, three (3) days off roster or FIFO from Townsville, Cairns or Brisbane, with a roster pattern of eight (8) days on, six (6) days off, working twelve (12) hour shifts.

You will be responsible for:
  • Promoting and maintaining a high level of safety performance through personal commitment and application of EHM procedures and standards
  • Identification, design and implementation of projects to improve performance and efficiency of existing plant and processes
  • Management of capital projects including budget and schedule control
  • Performing engineering calculations, structural inspections and scope of works development
  • Providing technical support to fixed plant maintenance teams and other UG departments as required
  • Identify and solve issues affecting reliability while applying appropriate standards and systems
  • Carry out analysis on all breakdowns and ensure compliance with Australian standards and legislation.
The ideal applicant should possess:
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with at least 3+ years’ experience;
  • Previous engineering experience in the mining industry. Crushing, conveying and/or hoisting experience would be highly regarded;
  • A proven safety record, good communication skills, the ability to work unsupervised and within a team;
  • Excellent computer skills including experience using AutoCAD and Solidworks, with SAP exposure highly desirable; and
  • Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) would be highly regarded.
