JOB DESCRIPTION

Cost Estimator- Civil contract role with State Owned organisation. 3 month contract based in Parramatta.

Your new company
Our client are a State Owned water resource organisation who service the Greater Sydney area. They are currently seeking to appoint an experienced Cost Estimator on an initial 3 month contract, based in Parramatta.

Your new role
The purpose of the position is to provide analytical support to the delivery of project cost estimation services for all stages of Delivery Management projects, including maintaining an up to date central source of supplier and contractor information, and assisting with the preparation of cost estimates and plans.

Project Cost Estimation Systems and Processes:

  • Maintain supplier and pricing schedule databases with up to date pricing
  • Assist in the development and implementation of cost estimation processes and procedures, including providing input for improvement.
  • Provide research and analytical support for benchmarking for cost comparison, including the use of first principles, past projects and other various sources.

Service Delivery

  • Prepare analytics, data mining and reporting to support all stages of the cost estimation process
  • Conduct market information and bench marking analysis
  • Assist with the preparation of cost plans, tenders and budget estimates as required.
  • Provide high quality analytical support for the preparation of project cost plans, budget estimates, tenders and business cases, and deliver in a timely manner
  • Support the assessment and calculation of contingency costs associated with risks and opportunities including design development, procurement and price escalation.
  • Analyse spreadsheets to ensure labour and material costs meet tender and project requirements.
  • Review tender costing associated with single source supply to identify anomalies in cost comparison as required.
  • Provide analytical support to the regular reviews and validation of Cost Planning and estimates, highlighting potential issues with key stakeholders and the Project Manager.
  • Assist with post project reviews to verify accuracy of cost estimation and take improvement action if required.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Tertiary qualification in quantity surveying/ estimating/ finance or accounting/ business/ statistical analysis, or related field, or experience deemed equivalent.
  • Experience or qualifications in statistical analysis desirable
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience of a range of estimation tools
  • Methodical and detail minded coupled with Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels
  • Ability to manage competing demands and prioritise work to deliver to deadlines.
  • High attention to detail
  • Foundational financial management skills
  • Foundational understanding of construction concepts
  • 4+ years' experience in project cost estimating, modelling and business analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting project cost research, analysis and reporting
