Our Queensland Metals business operates five mining operations and processing plants, plus port and logistics operations and is a polymetallic business well placed for the future of commodities. Right now, we have an opportunity for you as the Superintendent – Short Term Planning within out Mount Isa Copper Operations. As one of the world’s largest Copper Operations and Australia’s deepest, this is a challenging position technically. However with a team of over twenty reports your leadership skills will be equally as important to us.
As one of the largest mining complexes in our region, we offer our employees unique and challenging opportunities. This position is residential in Mount Isa on a 5:2 4:3 roster.
We are currently seeking a Geotechnical Engineer for our underground mining operations. Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer: You will be responsible for mentoring Junior Geotechnical Engineers, maintaining and providing continuous improvement to current geotechnical procedures and processes. Ensure Geotechnical input and support is provided to operations, Short, Medium and Long term planning disciplines.
The key responsibilities in this role include:
- Ensure compliance is maintained to the Ground Control Management plan and QLD mining quarrying and Safety ACT.
- Training and Mentoring of Junior Geotechnical Engineers and ground awareness training to site personnel.
- Conduct and report Empirical and Numerical modelling of new mining blocks.
- Record and interrogate on monitoring instrumentation, report and develop action plans in conjunction with operations and planning engineers.
- A tertiary degree or an equivalent qualification in Engineering, with majors in Mining and Geotechncial engineering.
- Approximately 2 years’ experience in underground hard rock mining.
- Teamwork, strong communication skills, effective problem solving skills, analytical skills.
- Exposure to block caving projects and copper mining
- High level of accuracy in their work and ability to manage time effectively.
- Competent in using Deswik, and RocScience software packages, as well as Geostatistics.
