As Brisbane City Council we are the largest local government in Australia, supporting one of the fastest growing cities in the country. One of our branches, Asset Services, is currently looking for a talented Technical Officer Civil Engineering to join us.

Asset Services is a diverse branch, with service locations ranging from the Brisbane Botanic Gardens to Environment Centres across the city. We maintain Council own​ed facilities as well as road, footpath and ​drain networks, alongside maintaining the city’s parks and trees. We play a critical role in ensuring Council’s assets are fit for purpose, which in turn provides opportunities​​ for residents and visitors to explore and enjoy Brisbane.

About the role.

This role will see you supporting the management and delivery of civil engineering assets as part of a team of technical and professional staff. Your focus would be on:

  • scoping and identifying works required by undertaking desktop and physical inspections
  • providing technical advice, reports and correspondence relating to civil assets including roads, footpaths, curb and channel, guttering, fencing and stormwater infrastructure
  • monitoring and reporting on works undertaken by both internal and external providers, and providing input to regional reports
  • assisting in the packaging and management of the delivery of the capital rehabilitation and recurrent maintenance programs for road, footpath, stormwater drainage networks and waterways in Wards within the region in accordance with the current service level agreements and within budget
  • ensuring that roads, stormwater drainage networks and waterways are managed in accordance with the specified requirements of Council Corporate and Environmental policies, guidelines and standards, as well as state legislation; and
  • providing technical guidance to other staff and upskilling them when required.

What about you? To be successful you will have:

  • experience in civil engineering asset management and construction principles and practices, with a good level of knowledge around engineering guidelines, rules and standards
  • experience in developing job scoping documents for engineering works, as well as an understanding of the estimating process
  • competency in working autonomously, prioritising work and managing workloads to meet time, quality cost and service level requirements
  • well-developed verbal and written communication skills; and
  • competency in the use of computer based corporate asset management systems and MS Excel.
