Liquip International - part of OPW, is a global leader in fluid handling, metering, filtration and control solutions for the petro-chemical industry. This Sustaining Engineer role represents our commitment to continuous improvement in manufacturing and testing.

The Sustaining Engineer will work to improve production efficiency and provide innovative solutions to manufacturing problems. The primary way in which this will be achieved is through the assessment, design and improvement of production test jigs, with a view towards automation. This will require working closely with Production personnel to understand where maximum benefit can be had and how best to utilise the resources that are available.

In addition to implementing improvements, the Sustaining Engineer will contribute to the implementation of Minor Design Changes (MDC) for established product lines. Under the direction of the Mechanical Engineer, the Sustaining Engineer will maintain drawings and other documentation for Liquip’s existing product lines.

Where required, the Sustaining Engineer will also liaise with the Engineering Department, to receive technical support/collaboration and to provide input on manufacturing considerations in New Product Development projects.

This role would be well suited to a flexible and innovative engineer that is keen to apply good design principles to real-world manufacturing issues. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to implement significant, observable improvements in the manufacture of a wide range of products and technologies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, improve and automate production test jigs (for mechanical and electronic products) as directed by Mechanical Engineer
  • Improve assembly jigs and tooling to improve productivity, quality and reliability
  • Assess production processes and methods - recommending improved processes where beneficial
  • Generate detailed documentation of current and optimised production processes
  • Update drawings and documentation as required for the implementation of Minor Design Changes (MDC)
  • Support production staff and resolve manufacturing issues
  • Detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to ensure effective solutions are applied
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related Engineering Qualification
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment or related industry
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills required in order to facilitate effective communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Clear written communication skills required for the generation of instructional and technical documentation
  • Experience with a 3D modelling package (ideally Solidworks)
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn

Desired Characteristics, Competence and Capabilities:

  • Experience in a varied manufacturing environment (e.g. castings, machining, welding, mechanical and/or electrical assembly and testing)
  • High focus on continuous improvement and production/testing efficiency
  • Hands-on practical ability beneficial
  • Experience with pneumatic circuits would be highly regarded
  • Automation experience (e.g. PLC and/or microcontroller) would also be highly regarded
  • The ability to be flexible to manage competing priorities
  • Good at thinking outside the box and have an aptitude for innovation
  • Self-directed, and able to work independently to achieve allocated goals
  • Familiarity with risk assessment processes and documentation would be beneficial
