About the Position
An opportunity has arisen to appoint a highly talented and experienced optical physicist or optical engineer to lead a small team in an ongoing position. We are looking for someone with hands-on experience in precision measurements, control and characterisation of noise. It would be a significant advantage if you have experience with spectroscopy, digital control, clocks and frequency measurement as well as data acquisition. We are seeking a candidate eager to undertake leading-edge research, but to do it in a well-funded commercial environment with access to the latest tools. You will be surrounded by highly motivated scientists and engineers and be supported by a highly expert administrative team.
About You
You will have a PhD level qualification in experimental physics, optical/electronic engineering or equivalent. You will have at least one year of post-qualification experience, although we would prefer 3 years or more. You may currently be working in a university or commercial environment.

Essential
- A PhD in experimental physics or optical/electronic engineering or equivalent
- At least one year postdoctoral experience or equivalent in optics, laser physics/engineering, photonics or similar
- Direct experience of precision measurement, control, and noise characterisation
- Desire to be an essential part of a successful and fast growing start-up company
- Strong work ethic, exceptional organisation skills and great attention to detail
- Willingness to work effectively with a diverse team to produce effective outcomes
- Excellent communication and delegation skills
- Australian citizen and able to meet the requirements to gain a Baseline Security Clearance
Desirable
- Experience working in the defence, space or engineering sector
- Experience leading a research team
- Experience working in a commercial environment
- Experience with frequency control and measurement, digital control, FPGA programming, data acquisition, spectroscopy, clocks
