About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Building Team as a Cadet Building Surveyor to provide support to our Municipal Building Surveyor and Assistant Building Surveyor.

This opportunity will see you gain a wealth of experience and development within the Building industry in Local Government.

Day-to-day, you will:
  • Under supervision (unless a registered building inspector), carry out inspections of all types of buildings and swimming pools/spas, checking compliance with Building Regulations and accurately and consistently record all inspection results on Council’s Greenlight database.
  • In consultation with the Assistant Building Surveyor and Municipal Building Surveyor help to develop, refine and implement Council’s swimming pool audit and compliance program considering the most recent directions from State Government and the Victorian Building Authority.
  • Assist in the provision of administrative support in relation to the activities of the Building Services unit
  • Develop and maintain best practise standard operating procedures to guide compliance investigations and audit programs.
  • Prepare draft building notices and orders as required under the guidance of the Assistant Building Surveyor and Municipal Building Surveyor.
  • Under the guidance of the Assistant Building Surveyor, assist in the assessment and preparation of report and consent applications.
  • Respond to counter and telephone enquiries and answer any queries relating to the duties of the position and regulatory matters

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will have a relevant qualifications or experience in Building Surveying

We are also looking for someone who has:
  • A sound understanding and demonstrated knowledge of the Building Act 1993, Building Regulations 2018, National Construction Code of Australia and referenced Australian Standards
  • Strong customer service focus with a demonstrated commitment to delivering high quality customer service.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
