Network Security Engineer with experience across Networking, Security, Switches, Routers, Firewalls, Proxy, Linux/Unix, Scripting (Shell and Perl).

A Global ICT organisation is currently seeking an experienced Network Security Engineer to provide technical services and support within the Gateway Operations environment for one the largest Federal Government departments, based in Canberra, ACT.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of gateway functionality by proactively monitoring, and conducting service and incident response.
  • Initial root cause analysis on gateway related issues for client, servers and other gateway equipment.
  • Management and maintenance of the configuration, change, documentation and procedures for the gateway environments.
  • Providing advice to troubleshooting and problem solving within the gateway operations environment.
  • Monitor network data streams and event log data to ensure that Intrusion attempts are detected investigated and prevented.
  • Assist users in defining their access rights and privileges, and administers logical access controls and security systems.

Key Requirements:

  • Network Engineering experience in switches, routers, SNAT/NAT.
  • General Firewall experience - preferably in mixtures of Stateful and Layer 7 Firewalls.
  • Proxy experience - Bluecoat.
  • Solaris or Linux/Unix experience - understanding of commands and concepts is required.
  • The ability to perform root cause analysis on network/computer issues on clients, servers and network equipment.
  • A general understanding of Computer/Network Security Policies and enforcement.
  • Load Balancing experience.
  • Experience in configuring and supporting Apache.
  • Experience in supporting a DNS environment.
  • Experience in supporting Windows Server and associated domains.
  • General scripting skills (Shell, Perl)
