Full time permanent position

Are you looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer role in Sydney? Are you degree-qualified with 5 years’ hands-on CAD experience? Our client is a Sydney-based tech company providing smart transport solutions for logistics customers within the gig economy. They are looking for someone experienced in designing mechanical and electromechanical systems, who can take a hands-on approach but also guide others to achieve the desired outcome.

My client is an exciting start-up operating out of Australia, the US and UK, looking to continue their bold expansion plans. Created in 2017 with a vision of supporting gig economy workers, this company has gone from strength to strength with their innovative product and flexible service options. Their vision has been bolstered by significant venture capitalist investment, endorsing the long-term growth potential within this sector.

The Role

Working with the team, you will hands-on lead and develop electric light vehicles, conceptualising and prototyping new designs through to detailed engineering and mass-manufacturing. This is an exciting opportunity on the forefront of electrical light vehicle design in the electro-mobility space and you will play a key role in helping the client become the leading global provider of sustainable cargo and last mile delivery solutions. Your role will involve;

• translating user and business needs into design requirements

• ideation, prototyping, and assessing vehicle concepts

• detailed engineering design, manufacture, test and verification of vehicles

• working cross-functionally and liaising with manufacturing partners and suppliers

• project planning including time and cost estimates, keeping stakeholders informed

• applying best development practices i.e. design reviews, risk analyses and critical thinking

Skills and experience

As someone who can work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment, you will have;

• 5 years’ experience as Mechanical Engineer with hands-on CAD experience

• relevant degree (e.g. Mechanical Engineer, Mechatronics)

• experience in designing and integrating mechanical and mechatronics systems

• experience with engineering calculations, simulations and risk analysis skills

• experience with regulatory standards and design for compliance

• basic experience in technical project management

• knowledge of and ability to apply prototyping techniques

• Understanding of design for manufacturing processes, especially aluminium tube shaping and welding, machining, and sheet metal fabrication

• CAD software skills (preferably Solidworks)
