We are currently looking for a Senior Cost Modelling Engineer to join our Advisory business, based in Canberra

QinetiQ has a pedigree in Cost Engineering and Cost Modelling both locally within Australian and Internationally. Due to the number of client opportunities, we are looking to grow our organisation and capability further within our Advisory Services area. We are therefore looking to fill a number of Cost Modelling Engineer roles within the organisation.

QinetiQ have developed an internal Cost Engineering training course to ensure that our cost modelling capabilities are delivered consistently throughout our organisation. The successful candidate will be required to complete this training course.

As a Senior Cost Modelling Engineer your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing independent cost and schedule estimates in support of the client’s projects and programs of work for budget setting and approval purposes
  • Analysing data, utilising various estimating methodologies, tools and techniques
  • Supporting the development of reports to support cost modelling estimates for submission
  • Liaising and coordinating Cost Modelling activities with client personnel
  • Supporting Cost Research for the projects and programs of work within the client organisation
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with customers and wider key stakeholders on Cost Modelling
  • Providing Cost Estimation support regarding charging rates, cost certificates and cost allocation methods


To be successful in the role of Senior Cost Modelling Engineer you will require:
  • Good systems engineering appreciation
  • Use of formal statistical cost software packages
  • Understanding of cost normalisation; inflation, learning, currency and exchange rates
  • Appreciation of Defence procurement processes and Department of Defence operating doctrine
  • IT literate including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Good numerical and statistical skills including historical trend analysis and data normalisation
  • Interpersonal / presentation skills
  • Appreciation of finance and accounting
  • Appreciation of parametric cost estimating
  • Self-motivated with the ability to learn new ideas
  • Background in Defence material systems, systems engineering and/or logistics – desirable


Applicants MUST be eligible to obtain an Australian Government security clearance.
