JOB DESCRIPTION

About Us

Silanna is an innovative designer and manufacturer of integrated circuits, investing in disruptive technology to bring cutting edge products to the marketplace. We design and manufacture microelectronic devices using unique configurations of both CMOS-on-insulator and compound semiconductor process technologies.

Our team members are talented individuals looking for the chance to unleash their energy, creativity and inventiveness. They are passionate about our technology, products and services and are excited to be involved in our continued growth and success.

An opportunity has arisen for a Characterisation Engineer based in our new epitaxy focused R&D and manufacturing facility in Brisbane.

About the Role

Working in the Technology Development group, the Characterisation Engineer will work with growth, process and device engineers on the design, implementation, qualification and support of experimental apparatus for the characterisation of optoelectronic materials and devices and on the design and implementation of semiconductor and optoelectronic test structures. This will involve collaboration on the development of optoelectronic device architecture which meets technology performance, reliability and yield goals.

With responsibility for maintenance of characterisation protocols and complete routine and as-required material and device characterisation and analyses, this role will Interface with epitaxy, process and device design teams to understand requirements for the development of high-performance optoelectronic devices and provide critical characterisation feedback to better understand device performance and solve associated technological issues.

Key deliverables and responsibilities include:

  • Design and implementation of experimental apparatus and appropriate software control for the characterisation of optoelectronic materials and devices.
  • Design and implementation of experimental apparatus and appropriate software control for in-situ material growth monitoring.
  • Troubleshooting and correction of hardware/software failures in characterization equipment, liaising across teams and with equipment suppliers as necessary.
  • Maintenance of database of experimental results and analyses.
  • Analysis, reports, and presentations on material and device characterisation results.
  • Design of experiment and associated statistical analysis to provide meaningful insight on important material and device properties.
  • Maintain procedure documentation for the operation and calibration of characterisation equipment.

About You

The successful candidate will be Honors, Masters or PhD degree qualified in Electronics or Electrical Engineering or Physics or equivalent and have a solid understanding of optoelectronic instrumentation, including lock-in amplifiers, detectors, source meters and integration of equipment. Possessing high-level analytical skills, you will have practical experience in the following areas:

  • experimental techniques, data collection and data interpretation,
  • the design of optoelectronic characterisation experiments and
  • the characterisation of thin films and/or heterostructures.

Candidates possessing some or all of the following will be highly regarded: a background in theoretical physics, specifically solid-state physics, quantum mechanics and mathematical methods; proficiency in Labview and MATLAB or equivalent programming language for data analysis and visualisation (e.g. Python, C/C++); and experience with X-ray diffraction data collection and analysis.

NOTE: Only candidates with existing entitlement to work in Australia will be considered for this role.
