TAL AMS was established in 1989 and is a Business Unit of Thales Australia (TAL) and a Centre of Excellence of the global AMS Business Line. Its mission is to manufacture and deliver ATM (Air Traffic Management) solutions, including complex System of Systems utilising its 540 highly skilled employees.

The TAL AMS Country Business Unit (CBU) is currently organized in two Business Segments:

  • OneSKY Program (OSP) in charge of the on-going bid and project for Australia
  • Air Traffic Contr & Turnkey Segment (ATS) responsible for the other bids and projects.

About Your Role

The Solution Design Architect (SDA) position is part of the ATC & Turnkey segment. The SDA will be allocated to programs, bids and studies to provide coordination and validation of solution engineering choices.

Depending on the nature of the bid or project, the jobholder will need to act as a Solution Architect, Project Design Authority, or a combination of both roles. The SDA needs to ensure on bids and programs that the best trade-off is achieved between Customer requirements and Product Policy, consistent with schedule, costs, MTB strategy & risks/opportunities. The position reports to the Lead Solution Design Architect.
  • Overall accountability for Solution compliance for allocated Bids and Projects.
  • Responsible to conduct the Solution Orientation Review (SOR) for Bids in collaboration with Solution Architect(s) and Systems Engineer(s).
  • Conduct Solution Architect activities when required on Bids and Projects
  • Ensure that the design of the Solution satisfies:
    • Customer needs and contractual requirements for a project,
    • Alignment with the Product Policy,
    • Cost effectiveness, and applicable design legislation, rules and regulations
  • Ensures, with the support of Specialty Engineering experts & HSE stakeholders that:
    • Solution design considers contract requirements in terms of Safety, Security and Human Factors and applicable legislation, rules & regulations, including Environmental/HSE requirements & standards,
    • Related certification activities are performed correctly.
How About You?
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering
  • Degree in computer sciences (minimum Bachelor of Sciences) and network discipline
  • Strong experience holding positions in systems engineering and/or software engineering and/or integration on complex software-centric real-time systems for several years
  • A proven track-record in designing architectural Solutions for complex System Of Systems,
  • An ability to provide technical guidance on network solutions,
  • An ability to provide technical guidance on cyber security solutions,
  • Proven capability to work in a multi-cultural environment and with variety of international customers,
  • Experience in the ATM Domain will be a strong asset
