About the Project

McConnell Dowell is the constructor within the Western Program Alliance (WPA) which forms part of the Victorian State government's ambitious level crossing removal program. The Alliance brings together the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP), Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM), and Arup and Mott MacDonald as design partners.

WPA was formed in 2017 and following the successful completion of several major projects, is now focused on delivering the level crossing removal at Ferguson Street in North Williamstown. The project involves lowering the rail line, construction of a new road bridge and pedestrian concourse, refurbishment of the existing station building, construction of stair, ramp and lift access to the lowered platforms, as well as plaza areas and landscaping.

Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking applications from experienced and highly skilled construction professionals to join us in the role of Senior Project Engineer - Stations. Drawing on prior experience in a similar position, you will provide end to end leadership for the delivery of the station through the effective coordination and control of engineering works though the activities of technical engineering, inspection, scheduling, planning, survey, procurement and quality control.

As Senior Project Engineer - Stations, you will be accountable for:

  • Ensuring that all staff adheres to the company's quality, safety and environmental policies and procedures and that acceptable working methods and practices are implemented and are in accordance with the project specifications
  • Managing fabrication and construction of structural steel ramp and canopy structures
  • Refurbishment and fit out of the existing station building
  • Procurement, fabrication and installation of modular building
  • Architectural fit out of station platform and plaza
  • Construction and commissioning of station electrical, mechanical and operational control systems
  • Ensuring detailed planning of station works and coordination with other disciplines and activities within tight occupation timeframes
  • Ensuring that non-conformances are reported, and that suitable remedial and corrective actions are planned and implemented within the required time frame
  • Coordinating engineering, temporary works, scheduling and status of the project
  • Monitoring and coordinating the preparation, maintenance and change of construction schedules, methods, manning charts and equipment requirements. Advise on actions to be taken to prevent or improve undesirable trends in progress
  • Interpreting engineering documents and drawings for field personnel
  • Providing general technical assistance to supervisory personnel
  • Preparing reports on progress, manpower and costs and coordinate the work scheduling and procurement, and other reports required by the Construction Manager/Project Manager
  • Ensuring the currency and accuracy of information for schedules and reports; provide timely submission of reports and project schedules

Requirements for this role are:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Construction, Civil/Mechanical Engineering
  • Several years engineering experience in a similar position with demonstrated success in delivering to financial targets, planning and logistics management
  • Specialist experience in stations engineering and a working knowledge of project management
  • Competent in planning and organising work schedules and a demonstrated ability to deliver to set timelines
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HS&E requirements and implementation of the same
  • Advanced communication skills with the proven ability to build and maintain relationships and engage others at all levels
