An engineering consultancy has a newly created position for an Electrical Engineer in Brisbane where you'll enjoy working the entire project lifecycle.

The Company

It's an exciting time to be part of this emerging engineering consultancy as they continue to secure interesting and complex projects within the Water Utilities, Health, Chemical, Oil & Gas and Aviation sectors. This is largely due to their ability to deliver exceptional engineering solutions while ensuring the best outcomes for the project and their clientele. This consultancy is often engaged by the Asset Owners Team to investigate complex projects and present tailored engineering solutions, along with working in collaboration with respected Contractors.

The Role

You will have the pleasure of reporting into an admired Principal Engineer who is known as a technical specialist within their field. He is committed to training and mentoring his team while offering an environment of flexibility, autonomy, and support. This role will see you interfacing with a range of clientele throughout the project milestones. You will also be presented with opportunities to truly consult to clientele through making recommendations that will improve their assets and delivery models.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working independently and as part of a team on various projects in line with client requirements
  • Liaison with business leaders to promote innovative engineering solutions, create or amend scopes of work, act as the conduit between the Owners Team and the Contractor
  • Provide innovative design solutions as per best engineering practices
  • Completion of design tasks for HV/LV power systems, industrial electrical switchboards and control panels, industrial electrical installations, ancillary electrical systems for industrial applications, process instrumentation, process control systems and other tasks as directed
  • Work to Safety in Design principles in accordance with state based WH&S legislation
  • Prepare and make presentations for both clients and professional meetings
  • Preparation of estimates and consultancy proposals with due consideration of technical, commercial and pricing aspects
  • Preparation of design drawings, project specifications, design reports and other project documentation as directed
  • Lead technical discussions internally, with customers and with suppliers on behalf of the business

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in an industrial context with design and delivery responsibilities
  • Previous water utility experience is highly desirable
  • Construction industry safety induction (blue/white card)
  • RPEQ (or have a desire to obtain)
  • Familiarity with HV equipment (transformers, switchboards, RMUs, protection relays, etc up to 33kV). Expertise with a range of major equipment brands, including from vendors ABB, Schneider-Electric, Siemens, SEL
  • Design responsibility for HV and LV protection systems and familiarity with HV and LV protection techniques
  • Familiarity with a range of HV IEDs and their configuration (eg ABB PCM600, SEL)
  • Familiarity with the design and construction of LV switchboards and MCCs and design responsibility for LV switchboards and control panels
  • Familiarity with LV switchboard componentry, motor starters, circuit breakers etc
  • Familiarity with industrial process instrumentation and design responsibility for integration into an electrical installation
  • Familiarity with industrial process control systems and design responsibility for integration of such systems into an electrical installation
  • Active participation in design review workshops, HAZOPs, CHAZOPs, Safety in Design reviews, etc
  • Proficient in reading of process drawings (P&IDs, process flow diagrams, pump curves, etc)
  • Expert in reading of and proficient in the production of electrical drawings (SLDs, power and control schematics, PLC termination schematics, communications topologies, network diagrams, etc)
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite
  • Autodesk AutoCAD proficiency
  • Power system design software experience (in particular PowerTools for Windows)
