JOB DESCRIPTION

As a contributing member of the Eaton Vehicle Group Australia Senior Leadership Team, the focus of this role is to provide operational leadership for both Engineering and Operations functions with 5 direct reports and a total team size of 11.

Specifically, leading OEM product development, Engineering, Warranty, Technical Service & Support, Customer Training and Operational functions for the Vehicle Group Australia & New Zealand. Ensuring key business metrics under your direct control are met and actively contribute to wider business goals of top line sales, operating profit, growth and new wins whilst fostering a culture of safety, quality, performance and excellence.

Engineering:

  • Responsible for evaluating requirements and directing engineering activities associated with product development, modification and software operating systems.
  • Oversee the development of test strategies and systems.
  • Provide guidance to internal and external stakeholders (including all customers levels – OEM, dealer and fleet) to promptly identify and resolve engineering / technical / warranty issues and implement countermeasure to avoid reoccurrences.
  • Lead and motivate the engineering and technical support team to achieve personal and business objectives.
  • Communicate with OEM and relevant engine companies engineering departments on correct product usage and current and future projects.
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate the installation of products, ensuring compliance and certification with all associated requirements.
  • Assist with the design of Eaton product into OEM’s vehicles, which can involve input to chassis layout and component design and detailing of parts for local adaptation.
  • Maintain technical knowledge and stay abreast of technical advancements and engineering trends for truck component products and advise management of any changes in competition or related matters including recommended products or product line revisions.
Operations:
  • Manage and co-ordinate activities in the departments of occupational health and safety, supplier and customer quality, environmental impact and overall facilities management.
  • Utilize the Eaton Quality System ensuring compliance to specifications and standards whilst monitoring overall performance metrics in line with targets.
  • Ensure all employees are aware of and trained in relevant OH&S and environment processes.
  • Ensure ongoing accreditation to ISO 9000:2008 is maintained by coordinating external and internal auditors.
  • Lead Production Supervisor to control capacity planning activities whilst recommending and developing improvements in production practices to promote value add efficiencies and reduce costs, whilst maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Responsible for performance goals and objectives in line with targets set for OH&S metrics, CAPEX and Cost; coupled with monthly reviews and action plans to measure improvements in target setting using prescribed tools.
  • Ensure all company and statutory OH&S obligations are met and employee safety is maintained at all times.
  • Manage facility maintenance ensuring all buildings, fixed and mobile plant and tooling are maintained at an appropriate level.
  • Responsible for investigating the uses of other Eaton Business Systems tools for Eaton Vehicle Group – e.g. Six Sigma, Gated product implementation process and Lean manufacturing
Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • High energy with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Proven track record of implementing innovative customer focussed solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with experience liaising with senior management from both within and outside of the company.
  • Sound knowledge of commercial vehicle mechanical and electronic architecture and how these components and systems interact and integrate with each other.
  • Ability to plan, organise and build effective teams and motivate them.
  • Experience planning, costing and forecasting.
  • Some customer sales & service experience as well as knowledge of the Australian heavy commercial vehicle market and local operating conditions are distinct advantages.
  • A high level of proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and especially Excel together with Adobe Suite.
