Job Summary

As our Technical Support Engineer you will provide product support, installation assistance, system testing, and training to Trimble Distribution and OEM Partners and end customers globally. Product/system technologies supported include; Trimble Grading/Paving/ Excavating/Drilling & Piling Machine Control Systems, Siteworks software applications, Site Positioning applications, wireless data and communication systems and related hardware. Additional responsibilities include interfacing with engineering for the purpose of testing and evaluating new products.

  • The role is full time, permanent, standard working hours depending on location.
  • The role will ideally be based out of our Christchurch office, for the right person we would also consider basing you at either our Auckland or Brisbane offices.
  • When travel becomes an option again you should anticipate the requirement to travel on an adhoc basis within the Asia Pacific region and the USA, up to 20% of the time.

What You'll Do

Success in this position involves the timely maintenance of technical support related issues to reduce company costs and customer and dealer dissatisfaction. On a daily basis this will include:
  • Provide fast and efficient technical support to resellers and internal Trimble teams
  • Gain and keep a high-level knowledge of Trimble's on-machine and off-machine products
  • Provide training, job site installation and troubleshooting
  • Work closely with resellers, product management and development teams to solve product issues
  • Provide advanced technical support on problems of diverse scope, where analysis of data is required
  • Provide new product input, field-testing and subsequent production release involvement
  • Create technical notes and documentation
  • Other duties as assigned

What You'll Bring
  • Mechanical skills (ideally with heavy civil machinery)
  • Knowledge or understanding of electrical/electronic schematics and general electrical/electronic wiring and troubleshooting
  • Onboard diagnostics knowledge (CAN) a plus
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Capable of working independently and in a team-based environment
  • Able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Computer literacy and competency
  • A background in Engineering or Construction with Trimble products a plus
  • Familiarity with the Specialty Construction portfolio is an advantage (Loadrite, Lifting Solutions, GuidEX, Roadworks, Groundworks or Trimble Marine Construction)
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Surveying (Civil)/ Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management (Mechanical) OR 2 years relevant industry experience (such as Heavy Equipment Operator, Machine Control Installer, Field Technician, Seismic Land Surveyor)
