The Energy Queensland Group is 100% owned by Queenslanders and we deliver electricity across Queensland through our ‘poles and wires’ businesses Energex and Ergon Energy Network making us one of the largest electricity networks in the western world; employing thousands of people right around the state.

We have a permanent in our Field Delivery - business unit for Power Worker (Trades Assistant) and are inviting applications from suitably qualified Energy Queensland employees and the external market. The position will be based in Julia Creek.

Field Delivery is responsible for the core functions of customer service response, including customer fault response and disaster management, customer connections, customer relationships and provision of metering services. Also constructing and maintaining overhead, high and low voltage electrical distribution and sub-transmission systems, street lighting mains and customer service lines.

To be a Power Worker (Trade Assistant):

  • You will assist tradespeople with the construction, maintenance and associated activities on overhead and underground electrical networks with limited supervision.
  • Provide support as a safety observer and actively identify and implement risk control measures where needed.
  • Drive and operate vehicles, plant, tools and equipment, while also maintaining and checking the operation of equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain both material and stock levels, ensuring adequate stock is on hand.
  • Recent experience with crane/borer ticket in the distribution industry would be advantageous.
  • Participate in the on-call roster and work after hours if required;
  • Willing to travel to surrounding areas from time to time to undertake work;
  • Additionally, external applicants will be required to complete a pre-employment medical

The level of payment will be subject to an assessment of the successful applicant’s knowledge, skills and competencies that are required in this position. Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Energy Queensland Union Collective Agreement 2020.
