The Client:

First Derivatives is a leading provider of products and consulting services to some of the world's largest finance, technology and energy institutions. The Company holds a niche market position in terms of domain knowledge of capital market asset classes (equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, commodities, etc), as well as expertise in leading financial services systems (such as Calypso, Murex, Opics, Summit, Principia, Opus, Wall Street, kdb+, etc).

They now seek an experienced Financial Engineer Business Analyst to join the team in Sydney.

The Roles:

The Financial Engineer Business Analyst role will be responsible to augment the Calypso Production Services Team at First Derivatives in the Australia and Asia Pacific (APAC) region. This role will serve as a key member of the team in the APAC region supporting core local business hours and non-core UK hours.

It is for a full time role with an annual salary of $75,000 + Superannuation.

The Responsibilities:

  • Key member of the team in the APAC region supporting core local business hours and non-core UK hours
  • working with users to formulate and document business requirements
  • identifying, investigating, and analysing business processes, procedures and work practices
  • identifying and evaluating inefficiencies and recommending optimal business practices, and system functionality and behaviour
  • using project management methodologies, principles and techniques to develop project plans and to cost, resource and manage projects
  • taking responsibility for deploying functional solutions, such as creating, adopting and implementing system test plans, which ensure acceptable quality and integrity of the system
  • creating user and training documentation, and conducting formal training classes
  • developing functional specifications for use by system developers
  • using data and process modelling techniques to create clear system specifications for the design and development of system software
  • acting as a central reference and information source, providing guidance and assistance in the system project decision making process
  • Identify problems through comparison of former systems to help resolve problems for the end users
  • Part of a global team responsible for application and technical level support of the Calypso system for a large Multi-National Clearing House.
  • Provide overnight support for Control-M batches ensuring any issues that may be experienced by Calypso are escalated and resolved as appropriate
  • Calypso is used as a Cash Management System and is being implemented for Collateral Management covering Margin Call generation, IM, VM, CVM and additional liabilities as collateral exposures.
  • Support various applications relating to a range of asset classes
  • Analysis of business/work practices: formulate and determine client business requirements and needs
  • Software design: identify potential and existing problems and plan software solutions as well as analyse, develop, implement and integrate software First Derivatives plc
  • Communicate with a wide variety of users, specialists, analysts etc across multiple technology platforms
  • Liaise with Calypso development team for system enhancements and hot-fixes

The Requirements:

  • Expected to be educated to a Bachelor degree level
  • 9 -12 months working in a high performance computing environment in the capital markets or investment banking industry to include appreciation of a range of asset classes.
  • Must also have acquired knowledge of the calypso application
  • Exceptional mathematical, or engineering and/or technical abilities.
  • Experience with SQL and UNIX
  • A minimum of at least 6 months working with Calypso Application
  • Previous Clearing House Experience is preferable
  • Skills in designing, developing, testing , implementing software
