As Aurizon continues to thrive in 2021, we’re looking for a Senior Engineer Telecommunications to join our team of 8!

In this role, you will report into the Engineering Leader Telecommunications as part of Aurizon’s Network Asset Management arm of the business. You will take the lead to coach and mentor other engineers whilst heading up the Design and Implementation of Telecoms projects within Aurizon. Based in Brisbane, there will be occasional travel to regional areas to visit the asset.

Your new role

  • Organise and plan the technical aspects of highly complex engineering projects including the design and preparation of system specifications, material and component specifications and safety in design requirements for new and altered works.
  • Develop and coordinate technical aspects and strategies for new technology and techniques applicable to engineering systems and networks.
  • Design, checking and auditing of highly complex engineering systems submitted by design team and or external providers.
  • Organise and prepare the associated documentation, user requirements, system requirements, installation procedures, verification and validation, testing and commissioning, asset handover, type approval, maintenance procedures for (engineering qualification) systems.
  • Ensure that designs produced conform to business and industry best practice.
  • Assist in the training and development of engineers and designers.
  • Identify requirements for new processes and standards and contribute to the production and implementation of new standards, specifications and work practices.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent (Mandatory).
  • Registered professional engineer under the Professional Engineer's Act of Queensland. (Mandatory)
  • 10+ years' engineering experience (Preferred).
  • Experience in PMR (systems engineering and deployment).
  • Experience in Microwave Radio links (design and implementation)
  • Working knowledge of OT networks (L2/L3/MPLS).
  • Experience in TDM Transmission Systems (SDH, PDH).
  • High level of skill in the development of technical aspects of highly complex engineering systems and networks, and the application of new technology and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with other sections, external providers, suppliers, regulatory authorities, users and trade staff in the introduction of new technologies and techniques.
  • Expert planning skills and autonomous approach to working without direct supervision
  • Ability to take initiative in the application of professional practices and to take responsibility for project deliverables.
  • High level of interpersonal, written and communication, consultation and negotiation skills.
  • Extensive knowledge in developing and implementing standards and procedures for engineering systems and networks.
  • High level of skill in the design and checking of complex engineering systems and designs including a proven track record of resolving problems to improve overall performance.
