About The Project

McConnell Dowell is the constructor within the Western Program Alliance (WPA) which forms part of the Victorian State government’s ambitious level crossing removal program. The Alliance brings together the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP), Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM), and Arup and Mott MacDonald as design partners.

WPA was formed in 2017 and following the successful completion of several major projects, is now focused on delivering the level crossing removals at Werribee (Werribee Street & Cherry Street), Hoppers Crossing (Old Geelong Road) and Cranbourne (the Cranbourne Line Upgrade), as well as developing future works projects.

Your Opportunity

We currently have a permanent opportunity available for an Engineering Coordinator. The primary focus of this role is to be the main interface between the Design and Delivery teams, by coordinating the delivery of packages through sound and compliant design management practices and engineering solutions which drive economic, programmed and risk management outcomes.

The Engineering Coordinator Will Be Accountable For

  • Coordinating the interfaces of design and engineering (permanent works) undertaken by design partners (Design Joint Venture) with construction requirements and MTM Works Readiness Procedure.
  • Ensuring that all design consultants are advised of their obligations under applicable legislation, codes of practice, the Project Execution Plan and all conditions set out in the contractual documents, and that those obligations are met.
  • Developing overall time and cost targets for design.
  • Coordinating the engineering option selection to deliver best value outcomes.
  • Organising and coordinating engineering activities to conform to construction schedules so as to complete the works within the required timeframe whilst constantly monitoring the status of planning, safety, environmental and quality activities.
  • Coordinating the design review and approval process involving parties external to design team (e.g. Construction team, Safety In Design, external Stakeholders and agencies).
  • Working with engineering and construction staff to develop and accommodate appropriate construction methods, construction execution procedures and inspection and test plans that are consistent with achieving the design intent.

Requirements For This Role Are
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years engineering experience in the construction industry with a demonstrated success in managing design consultants to time and cost targets, engineering standards and contract requirements.
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • Competent in negotiation.
  • Ability to form and maintain external consultant relationships.
  • A demonstrated understanding of contract management and cost control.
  • A demonstrates flexibility and resilience in dealing with complex issues and an ability to deploy sound problem-solving methodologies.
