About The Role

Reporting into the Managing Director, this is an opportunity for an

Estimator or Project Engineer who is seeking the opportunity to move into Commercial Management.

Working with the Project and Operations team, your primary responsibilities will involve bid management, estimating, negotiations and commercial management of structural steel projects. You will have sharp attention to detail, whilst also having a proven record of gathering information and compiling data to produce accurate costing estimates based on various client specifications.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate estimate preparation, calculate/prepare quantities and compile proposals.
  • Establish and maintain business development. 
  • Liaise with suppliers and contractors to obtain competitive pricing.
  • Previous success managing procurement, contract administration, construction coordination, subcontractor management and project documentation.
  • Review tender documents assessing the scope, risks and tender complexity.
  • Conduct site inspections for understanding, analysis of conditions and assessment of risk if necessary.
  • Ability to read and interpret all structural steel drawings, conduct accurate material take offs and labour estimates.
  • Understanding of fabrication and erection sequences, steel connections, welding procedures and shop detailing processes.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at once and manage various deadlines.
  • Ability and maturity to perform in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Previous construction commercial experience as a Project Engineer, Contract Administrator or Project Co-ordinator on commercial building projects.
  • Ability to support the Managing Director and Operations Manager by accurately reporting site financial progress on projects. 
  • Previous success managing procurement, contract administration, construction coordination, subcontractor management and project documentation.
  • A constant drive to ensure superior quality, to meet deadlines and achieve satisfactory budget outcomes.
  • An ability to identify commercial issues and champion practical solutions.
  • A capacity to identify risk to health and safety and ensure safety and environmental compliance.

Qualifications, Capabilities & Experience Required:

  • 5+ years structural steel estimating experience with Project Engineering skills within an SME environment.
  • Relevant trade background in fabrication and/ or Project Engineering.
  • Advanced experience interpreting fabrication drawings.
  • Strong technical understanding with the ability read structural drawings for accuracy with quoting and pricing works.
  • Networking, marketing and sales skills to constantly promote the business
  • Proven track record in driving change management processes to ensure that all changes (variations, EOT’s and claims) are effectively captured and managed in accordance with the Head Contracts to minimise commercial exposure and maximise profitability.
  • Astute in subcontract interpretation, compliance and governance and managing contractual disputes.
  • Strong risk management experience with an ability to assist in evaluating identified risks/opportunities and development of agreed strategies and management plans to mitigate risk.
