2. POSITION CONTEXT

Position
Summary/Purpose

The Builder Trades Trainer position will provide building trades-related training, mentorship and project

management for a team of local Indigenous building staff in various communities.
The strategic aims of this position will be to:

Ensure high quality and cost effective repairs and maintenance services for Territory Housing assets

in various communities

Coordinate/Supervise a team of Housing Maintenance Officers across a number of communities

Ensure high quality and cost effective repairs, maintenance and upgrade services to Councils and

other government assets in various communities, subject to RGRCs contractual obligations

Develop the building trades careers of local Indigenous staff

Achieve formal training outcomes for local Indigenous staff, including Certificate II, Certificate III in

relevant courses

Expand the local capacity to manage building projects and establish independent building trades-

related business enterprises
3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Mentor and lead a crew of Housing Maintenance Officers staff in various communities to meet the criteria for a Territory

Housing Repairs & Maintenance contract and work to develop the skills, accreditation and output of work crews.

Manage and Retain staffing levels as per the contractual obligations, this will include supporting and encouraging the

development of work ethics and team participation on projects.

Provide on the job training and guidance to local Housing Maintenance staff

Carry out Performance management of staff if required

Coordinate and assist in the management of work related to repairs, maintenance, upgrades and new construction of

buildings and facilities in various communities

Liaise with other RGRC staff, external contractors and suppliers in order to achieve cost-effective and high-quality building

project outcomes.

Coordinate Staff to ensure all required works are completed and reported back to Territory Housing within the required

timeframe

Sound knowledge of materials and their uses, to correctly identify a maintenance issues and know what material is required

to repair.

Keep records and monitor Quarterly statistics and report to Contracts Manager within established timeframes

Attend Contractor meetings and communicate the daily operations or concerns back to Territory Housing

Assist with reports to councils around the Housing Maintenance Operations

Provide sound knowledge and assistance to the Contracts Manager for future contract applications

Provide responses to Territory Housing regarding ministerial complaints

Report and Tenant Damage or Contractor required issues to TH for actioning

Coordinate procurement and liaise with RGRC staff, external contractors and suppliers for goods and services as required.

Maintain all construction equipment, tools, materials and stock in a safe, accountable and professional manner. The

position will be required to maintain a register of tools and materials register and ordering of additional materials.

This position may be required to perform any other administrative duties within the incumbents scope as determined by

management.
