Boral Asphalt is seeking a responsible, organised and experienced individual to join our team as a Project Engineer. Reporting to the Contracting Manager – Asphalt, your key focus will be to lead the delivery of projects to meet customer and Boral requirements while ensuring that project risks and opportunities are assessed and managed.
Key duties:
- Plan, organise and oversee the construction and operation of roadways
- Determine construction methods, materials and quality standards through site inspection and customer review
- Interpret specifications, drawings, plans, construction methods and procedures
- Organise and direct site labour/contractors and the delivery of construction materials (asphalt), plant and equipment.
- Obtain and interpret on site asphalt sample and tests to determine the strength, compressibility and other characteristics that affects the behaviour of asphalt pavement.
- Determine the pavement design and right asphalt mix for the safe traffic loading.
- Study architectural and engineering drawings, site conditions and specifications to estimate total costs and meet budget.
- Help prepare detailed cost plans and estimate tools to assist in tenders and quotes.
- Monitor changes to design, assess effects on cost, and measure, value and negotiate variations to design.
- Undertake regular project reviews and provide performance reports and forecasts.
- Undertake end of contract reports for all projects & feedback learnings to estimating team.
- Ensure quality systems are utilised to perform work in a standard manner with minimal risk of any failure, corrective action or customer complaint.
- Assist in the development of tenders/submissions.
- Develop and maintain visual key performance indicators to communicate and engage with the project team.
Skills and Experience:
- Success completing projects in a safe manner, on time and on budget.
- Experience in the delivery of asphalt, spray seal or construction work (preferred).
- Proven ability within in civil engineering roles.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in the engineering field.
- Proven leadership in Health & Safety.
- Contractor management experience.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines.
- Knowledge and understanding of project management methodology and LEAN practices.
- Proficient Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint skills and Project.
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships with all people, and to lead and influence people.
Salary Package - $85,000 - $95,000 plus super
