The role

The Mechanical Senior Mechanical Design Engineer drives all elements of product development from concept to commercialisation, initiates continuous improvement of existing product and high level technical support to internal and external customers, and mentors engineers at a more junior level.  Areas of responsibility

  • Delivering design for new product development
  • Project management – scheduling, planning all operational and activities
  • Design, 3D model as well as drafting and creating drawings to use for product manufacturing
  • Creating Mechanical designs and 3D models using software and mentoring others in software use
  • Carry out FEA simulations as a part of product verification process as well as supportive manual calculation
  • Create plan and participate in testing programs to validate product performance as well as field trials
  • Actively seek out new technologies which can be implemented in the development of Sandvik GET products or bucket options offering.
  • Create drawings for use in product manufacture including fabrication, assembly layout and installation
  • Undertake peer review of for new or improved designprojects for fellow design engineers within a team
  • Actively seek out new technologies which can be implemented in the development of Sandvik GET products or bucket options offering.
  • Liaise with suppliers or foundry personnel with the aim of producing quality production castings
  • Prepare Engineering reports as and when required, documenting any testing or other engineering-based activities
  • Cradle to grave product creation – from concept to product delivery
  • Working knowledge of engineering software such as NX, Teamcenter and Ansys or equivalents
  • Reporting for testing documentation and engineering recommendations

Your profile

We’re looking for a team player with a positive attitude who sees possibilities instead of obstacles. You’re a self-starter and you use this as an asset across the organization, constantly striving towards our common goals. You plan, implement and act in a structured manner – always keeping the business in mind – and you have a genuine passion for technology. A driven personality, the ability to communicate and the courage to stand by our processes and guidelines are other keys to success in this role.

You will have a tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, be comfortable working in a small team, sharing knowledge and working with best practice. You will have at least 8 years’ industry experience and have a good commercial understanding of the product development cycle and mechanical design drafting and 3D modelling skills. You will high level of knowledge in relation to manufacturing / assembly processes relating to fire suppression.
