The Role

The Senior Dynamic Planning Engineer leads the technical assessment process for third party connection applications, including dynamic studies for large-embedded generators, generator testing and generator model validation as part of due diligence review of Generator Performance Standards (GPS) to ensure connections are compliant with all system security obligations and electricity rules. The role is required to represent SA Power Networks with respect to system security and stability risks and negotiate accordingly with large generator proponents and agencies. 

The Senior Dynamic Planning Engineer will also provide strategic and operational commercially focused engineering expertise on network planning for the electricity network, including network impact assessment for large load or embedded generation projects.

This is a lead position, accountable to lead, mentor and guide multiple groups of engineers in technical assessment and engineering activities.


What you will need:

To be successful in this role you will need electrical network planning, analysis, and operational knowledge as well as advanced project management skills. You will have a specialised knowledge of the National Electricity Rules and Distribution Code and requirements as well as a specialised knowledge of Root Cause Analysis.

Other criteria include:

  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering qualification, that will allow admission as Corporate Member of Institute of Engineers, Australia
  • Current Australian Driver’s license
  • Extensive experience in electrical dynamic power systems analysis, stability concepts and assessment techniques
  • Extensive experience in resolving modelling, generator and system performance, or non-compliance issues, in a commercially minded and risk managed manner.
  • Experience in power systems analysis simulation applications such as PSCAD, PSSE, SINCAL, Mudpack, as well as other analytical software;
  • Highly developed communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Analytical problem solving skills
  • Understanding of Risk Management principles
  • Advanced customer service skills
  • Relationship building and influencing skills
