Position Title Building Certifier
Department Environmental and Regulatory Services
Directorate Sustainable Development
Reports To Built Environment Coordinator
Classification Level 5-6
Award Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream A) Award - State 2017 (as amended or replaced)
Agreement Southern Downs Regional Council Certified Agreement (as amended or replaced)
Position Objective
Provide technical advice, assess and inspect building works in the region and perform building certification
functions.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities may be modified from time to time to ensure the expected outcomes support the
Council’s operational and corporate plans.
All duties are to be conducted in an efficient, timely, professional and safe manner. The key responsibilities

Selection Criteria
Qualifications/ Licences - Mandatory
Bachelor of Building Surveying with a QBCC Level 1 or 2 license accompanied by substantial years of
relevant experience.
1. Experience in Building assessment and inspection.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of Queensland building standards and codes, and practices and experience
in applying legislation, policies or procedures.
3. Highly developed communication skills with the ability to negotiate, persuade and resolve conflict.
4. Highly developed written communication skills with demonstrated ability to compile complex reports.
5. Ability to manage time effectively to achieve outcomes within required timeframes and to work
autonomously and as part of a team.

6. Proficient keyboard skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite and operating corporate business
systems.
7. Thorough knowledge of the workplace health and safety considerations relevant to the area and proven
ability to limit risks in this type of environment.

include:
- Undertake the role of a Building Certifier as prescribed under the Building Act 1975 ensuring
- Undertake telephone and counter enquiries, utilising Council’s customer request system and prepare
- Carry out necessary inspections and searches on transfer of properties;
- Undertake pool safety inspections;
- Undertake assessments and prepare reports on applications for boundary relaxations and bond
- Prepare and deliver reports as requested.
- Other duties as directed by the supervisor.
Training
- On the job training will be provided to ensure that the position holder maintains a satisfactory

Selection Criteria
Qualifications/ Licences - Mandatory
- Possession of a current open “C” class licence (Car).
- Possession of an Occupational Health and Safety Construction Induction Card (“White Card”) or the
- Relevant qualifications and licence in Building Certification in Queensland - Associate degree in Building
Bachelor of Building Surveying with a QBCC Level 1 or 2 license accompanied by substantial years of
relevant experience.
- Accreditation as a Building Certifier.
- Swimming Pool Safety Inspector Licence
