Multiple new roles have become available for Security Engineers in Canberra with March start dates.

Your new company

Multiple new positions have become available for Systems Security Engineers working with a Federal Government Department in Canberra. The department are currently working with critical infrastructure owners and operators to understand and uplift their cyber security, and working with Australian Government agencies to strengthen their cyber security and implement the Federal Government's Essential Eight mitigation strategies.

Your new role

As part of your new role you will have broad knowledge across:

  • Security system design tools, methods and techniques
  • Installation, integration and optimisation of system components
  • Cyber security and privacy principles and organisational requirements (relevant to confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, non-repudiation)

You will also posses skills in:

  • In assessing security controls based on cyber security principles and tenets (e.g. e.g. ISO/IEC 27001:2013, NIST SP 8800-53 (Rev. 4), CIS CSC (v7.1), COBIT 5, C2M2)
  • In writing code in a current supported programming language (e.g. PowerShell JavaScript, C++)
  • In determining how a security system should work (including its resilience and dependability capabilities) and how changes in conditions, operations or the environment will affect these outcomes

Your key responsibilities will be inclusive of:

  • Analyse and report system security posture
  • Verify minimum security requirements are in place for applications
  • Perform security reviews, identify gaps in security architecture

What you'll need to succeed

As part of the Systems Security Engineering team, your mandatory requirements will include:

  • Experience in the installation, integration and optimisation of security systems
  • Experience in using industry standard frameworks (e.g. ISO/IEC 27001:2013, NIST SP 8800-53 (Rev. 4), CIS CSC (v7.1), COBIT 5, C2M2)
  • Experience in writing code in a current supported programming language (e.g. PowerShell, JavaScript)
  • Experience in evaluating the adequacy of security controls (e.g. assess access controls based on principles of least privilege)
