The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for leading the design, implementation and delivery of test solutions for large scale, critical software components. This role contributes to the delivery, support and improvement of software capabilities and acts as the enabler for the entire organisation by building tools, increasing test coverage across all supported platforms, defining best practices and supporting with continuous improvements of test processes, and thus helping teams to ship high quality code in less time.

This role plays an active role within a cross-functional team planning and executing technical change in line with an overarching set of standards and practices. It forms a critical role to help execute the charter of how can we make our software development process more efficient to deliver features faster that make our customers happy.

About the role:
  • Requires thorough technical, analytical and operational knowledge within the QA space as it relates to good software engineering & automation across the web application stack
  • Ability to work within an Agile environment and influence best practice approaches to quality and automation - right from build to test automation and integration
  • Support and own defining the quality and automation best practices and actively contribute to the continuous improvement of products, technology, process, and team
  • Create and maintain functional automation tests at the API and user-interface tiers
  • Invest in building and maintaining automation test grids for comprehensive platform and device coverage
  • Build and maintain tooling to identify test failure points, reduce flaky tests and enable management take go/no-go release decisions based on agreed quality metrics
  • Work with developers and review the unit, API test coverage to have optimum level of coverage at UI
  • Build automated quality gates in the development process to reduce production defects, time to deliver features
  • Contribute to the readiness of work including discovery, technical design, story articulation, and effort estimations
About you:
  • Extensive experience in writing test framework and processes including test plans/strategy, advanced scripting, execution, and reporting of critical web based applications and APIs
  • Solid skills with UI automation using Selenium Webdriver UI, Test Café automation; preferably using BDD frameworks, i.e. Cucumber, Capybara on Ruby language
  • Solid skills writing REST APIs tests using JS testing frameworks and building pipeline jobs to integrate them on CI pipelines, i.e. Jenkins
  • Prior experience working with cloud technologies, i.e. AWS API Gateway, CloudFront, and Lambda would be highly regarded
  • Prior work experience with automated testing using CI/CD methodologies and worked on Jenkins and/or similar tools
  • Proficient with at least one programming language, i.e. Python, Java, JavaScript or Ruby
  • Exposure of writing API performance tests using JMeter framework
  • Embraces agile philosophy and preferably has completed relevant certification on agile processes and methods
  • Ability to look at the big picture, effectively liaison with stakeholders to define quality improvement roadmaps
  • Very strong communication skills, adaptable to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small/medium sized teams
  • Ability to lead and influence leaders
