Our client is a leader in the design, manufacturing and providing of equipment solutions and service support to the manufacturing, recycling and materials handling industries. They are now seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their professional team based in Melbourne.

As the Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for working as part of the Engineering team on the development of projects encompassing mechanical design and manufacture, technical design and specifications and planning for installation works.

Candidates can come from sectors such as supply chain, process engineering, industrial, mining/metals processing and ideally materials handling and recycling. Having designed on/with the following equipment would be beneficial: structural framework, walkways/platforms, conveyors, recycling, materials handling, mining equipment etc.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Communicating ideas quickly and effectively using a combination of sketching, CAD layouts, 3D models and working prototypes to evaluate potential solutions
  • Applying sound engineering principles to technical problems
  • Applying a comprehensive understanding of engineering design and manufacturing processes
  • Interaction with suppliers and customers to build relationships.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve designs for cost effectiveness
  • Significant experience in researching, sourcing, and selecting spare parts and components for product design cost down initiatives on a worldwide basis.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • 5 to 10+ years Solidworks experience
  • 5 to 10+ years' experience in a product design or product development role
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide a pragmatic solution
  • Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to deliver clear and concise messages to the business and external stakeholders
  • An innovative thinker
