An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Product Development Engineer to join our Technology Development team based in our new epitaxy focused R&D and manufacturing facility in Brisbane.


About the Role

This is a critical role with responsibility for oversight and management of new UV emitter products through their lifecycle, including development, qualification, transfer into production, production and end of life and participation in planning, implementation and release of test solutions in preparation for volume manufacturing. The establishment of quality control procedures and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in product development, cost reduction and the creation of efficient and reliable multi-generational products will be a focus of the role, as will communication and management of project expectations of team members and stakeholders.

Key deliverables and responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring UV emitter products comply with product specifications and datasheets and with relevant industry and regulatory standards.
  • Rapid development and promotion of new UV emitter products through stage gates, ensuring requirement are met at each stage.
  • Ensuring production cost, delivery and yield goals met through the collection, analysis and summary of characterization, qualification and data to set product test limits.
  • Address product issues, including failures in the field so they are resolved expeditiously.
  • Product status communicated regularly through reports and verbal updates.
  • Communicate effective product requirement solutions. 
  • Establish product reliability through industry standard tests, possibly including HTOL, HTS, HAST and ESD.
  • Risk management through the product development life cycle.

About You

Degree qualified in Electronics or Electrical Engineering or Physics or holding equivalent experience with a background incorporating a minimum of five years’ experience in product engineering and working in and leading project teams.

You will possess high level communication and negotiation skills required to manage relationships with external suppliers.

The following are essential:

  • Experience in optoelectronics assembly development including materials selection, process qualification and working at or dealing with major assembly and test suppliers.
  • Experience in qualification of electronics/optoelectronic components/devices (JEDEC)
  • at least three years’ experience using parametric analysers and probers for testing and optical characterization techniques.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: Python, Matlab, C/C+ and Labview.
  • Experience in automated testers qualification and programming.
  • direct involvement in quality management, preferably in an electronics/optoelectronics
  • engineering organisation, or other relevant technically orientated discipline.
  • Excellent project management, organisational, interpersonal and analytical skills.

NOTE: Only candidates with existing entitlement to work in Australia will be considered for this role.
