The opportunity

Our Engineering and Maintenance directorate manages a $1.5 billion annual maintenance program on behalf of Sydney Trains and NSW Trains – delivering a safe, reliable passenger fleet and metropolitan rail network, to meet growing customer demand and keep Sydney moving.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Reliability Engineer to be a part of our Fleet Maintenance Division within Sydney Trains. This position plays a key role in in driving rolling stock reliability improvements though the implementation of reliability systems, processes/ procedures and initiatives across Maintenance and Operations, working with OEM’s and suppliers on life cycle costing and predictive maintenance opportunities while identifying top customer impacting faults/failures across electric and diesel fleets.

The role will be based in our Clyde Hub and is a permanent full time opportunity.

What you will be involved in:

Reporting to the Fleet Performance Manager, your key responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • Drive Rollingstock reliability improvements through the implementation of reliability systems, processes/procedures and initiatives.
  • Drive the identification of reliability issues, conducting root cause analysis and implementing containments and long term solutions.
  • Communicate with internal/ external stakeholders, regulators and engineers on relevant reliability issues/initiatives.
  • Implement reactive and proactive reliability reporting for daily, weekly and monthly analysis.
  • Provide continuous coaching and mentoring of frontline staff with practical problem solving techniques aligned to lean six sigma.
  • Analyse trends and patterns; recommending appropriate action in relation to Rollingstock and equipment warranty matters.
  • Drive a reliability centred culture through industry best practices and engineering assurance standards.

About you

We are looking for a tertiary qualified Reliability Engineer who has demonstrated experience in a multi-disciplined engineering team within a Rollingstock or similar maintenance environment with responsibility for the delivery of safe and reliable assets.

You will have knowledge and working experience in the application of root cause analysis through to the implementation of outcomes and continuous monitoring of these to ensure improvements and benefits are clearly delivered.

A successful applicant will be driven, self-motivated & safety conscious.

Competent in or be working towards Lean Six Sigma Accreditation issued by a recognised Accredited Supplier is highly desirable.

Salary and benefits

The salary for this position is RC6 ($127,559 - $141,442) per annum plus shift overtime, superannuation and leave loading.
