The Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) is one of the world's leading neuroscience research institutes. Part of the University of Queensland, the Institute is home to over 450 staff and students, which includes 38 Faculty/Group Leaders. Research at QBI spans cellular, molecular, circuit and systems neuroscience. About This Opportunity
You will assist Queensland Brain Institute’s research activities by designing, developing and manufacturing specialized electronic equipment, machinery and devices. You will also undertake all aspects of project planning and delivery from proof of concept through to test running, in conjunction with researchers and facilities support staff at QBI.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre.
Our Ideal Candidate
Completion of an undergraduate degree in a relevant field (electronics) combined with subsequent relevant experience is essential to the role in addition to the following:
- A high level of PCB manufacture skills (soldering)
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of electronic components
- Ability to read / draw design plans and electronic drawings
- Proficient at writing design briefs and operating guidelines of newly designed / prototyped equipment
- Substantial experience in the design and manufacture of electronic equipment
- Substantial experience in the design and development of firmware for embedded processors
- High level interpersonal skills in communicating and consulting with individuals and groups in relation to the design and manufacture of equipment
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and to work in a team environment.
Experience working in a medical or scientific field and competence in the safe use of hand and power tools is highly regarded. Restricted Electrical Licenced (QLD issue) is desirable.

What We Can Offer
This is a fixed term position until 31st December 2021 at HEW Level 7, with the possibility of extension.
The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $88,763.14 - $96,783.71 per annum plus super of up to 17%.
