Our client is a global company providing retail software systems for retail chains operating in numerous countries. Their personnel are currently located in Australia and in the UK, supported by a reseller in South Africa.

The product suite includes store systems, merchandise management, warehousing, Omni-channel fulfilment, customer and loyalty management, business analytics, as well as e-Commerce.

During the Covid-19 emergency the Company successfully shifted to a distributed team model and they intend to retain this approach going forward. 

They are embarking on an exciting and ambitious growth strategy.

The Senior Retail Systems Architect works as a member of the Architecture Team and reports to the Chief Systems Architect. This is both a technical and strategic role impacting the long-term success of the Company. 

The Senior Retail Systems Architect is responsible for:

  • Collaboration with the Chief System Architect, Business Development area, and Retail Directions Board in the development and maintenance of Platform Vision.
  • Collaborating with the Chief System Architect to achieve the vision via planning the future direction of the platform with regard to functionality, development platforms and technologies, appearance, operating systems and platforms, throughput and system integrations.
  • Producing, or coordinating the production of, any assigned projects and initiatives within defined scope, budget and timeframes.
  • Being fluent with our clients software development methodology and its continuing refinements and enhancements.
  • Engagement with the entire development team to make sure that the software development methodology is adhered to.
  • Ensuring that all development work is performed in a way that improves the value of the overall platform.
  • Ensuring that all design artefacts (as per the development methodology) are developed before or during the actual development process.
  • Ensuring that all design artefacts are of high quality i.e. delivering value, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Being involved and provide input in all phases of development projects – from participating in the proposal stage, requirements and scope definition, conceptual design as well as the build and test phases.
  • Handling any significant user, architecture or technical issues that may arise.
  • The maintenance of current retail and technology knowledge, as required to provide architectural leadership.

The Senior Retail Systems Architect must maintain regular communications with other members of the Architecture Team, the Head of Technology and Development, Product Managers and Team Leads, Retail Consultants and Client Account Managers, as well as any relevant personnel at client sites.

The key measurements of success in the role are client satisfaction, product revenue and product adoption in the market.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate must have a strong background and experience of working in a similar role within a retail software and services provider. 

The candidate will have a strong working understanding of Omni-channel retail and supply chain solutions. Background and skills working within a retail-focused development environment utilising toolsets such as C#.NET, Angular, Xamarin and SQL are important. Prior experience working with cloud-based providers such as Azure and AWS would also be ideal. Prior experience working within a mid-size, geographically dispersed, software development team is essential, as is the experience and gravitas needed to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and externally. The ideal candidate will be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office productivity tools including Azure DevOps, and be familiar with agile development and project management.
