CPB Contractors, as part of the Rail Infrastructure Alliance (RIA), has been named as the Victorian Government’s preferred proponent to deliver a $2 billion package of works in support of the $11 billion Metro Tunnel Project as well as the $1 billion Sunbury Line Upgrade.

CPB Contractors and John Holland are equal construction partners in the RIA, with AECOM as the design partner. The RIA also comprises project owner Rail Projects Victoria (formerly the Melbourne Metro Rail Authority) and operational franchisee Metro Trains Melbourne.

About The Project

This is the second package of Metro Tunnel works to be delivered by CPB Contractors, following the award of a $1 billion design and construct contract as part of the Rail Systems Alliance (RSA) in December 2017.

Construction has commenced and will be completed by 2025.

The current RIA scope of works covers the entirety of the existing Sunbury rail line, and the section of Dandenong rail line between the eastern tunnel entrance in South Yarra and Caulfield Station.

Major works for the Alliance includes the design and construction of entrance structures that will interface with Metro Tunnel works at South Yarra and South Kensington and major Rail Upgrade works in the Sunbury Railway Corridor.

We are now accepting expressions of interest for an experienced Engineering Coordinator to join our Project team based in Kensington.

About The Role

  • Coordination of project members in the design delivery process, including design, construction, planning, estimators and community
  • Provide a line of communication between site personnel (Project Engineers and Senior Project Engineers) to the Design Team
  • Development of value for money design deliverables for specific elements of the Works
  • Coordinate with Design Package Leads to develop sustainable technical solution and identify opportunities for improved sustainable outcome of the technical solution Assisting in the planning and procurement of design to ensure achievement of project objectives
  • Monitor design documentation progress against the program and elevate key issues to senior management
  • Review development of technical solutions to identify opportunities for improved technical solution with reduce construction cost and to ensure appropriate consideration is given to budget constraints
  • Maintain Design Package Distribution Matrix, including current Design Lot Register
  • Review design documentation and assist in the stakeholder review and approvals process.
  • Optimize design solutions through design team coordination, value engineering and innovation. Propose alternative solutions to complex issues
  • Prepare and manage Change Request submissions including coordination with design and delivery to agree timeframes and application to technical solutions as required
  • Manage the RFI process and initiate and manage design changes where required.
  • Demonstrate financial management skills and commercial acumen in decision making and management of contracts
  • Coordinate stakeholder participation in engagement workshops and comment close out discussions.
  • Coordinate timely closure of stakeholder comments to enable package submission
  • Periodic site presence during delivery to assist with confirmation of works in accordance with design documentation and intent

To be successful in this key role, you must have:
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Science, Building Construction or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years post graduate engineering experience with site and/or design based placements
  • Experience with major infrastructure projects preferable
  • Basic knowledge of contractual, legal, commercial, and legislative compliance management
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders of all levels
  • Excellent problem-solving and influencing and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of project management structure, plans, specification, standards and implications for project accountabilities
