Based at Ormeau, PWR Australia’s purpose-built manufacturing facility includes an extensive R&D department with a wind tunnel test facility, controlled atmosphere and vacuum brazing, welding, fabrication and CNC machine shop. In addition to our head office on the Gold Coast, we also have manufacturing facilities in the USA, and sales and distribution in the UK and Europe.

Job Description

The Opportunity:

PWR is looking for a talented individual to help PWR develop and maintain their internal simulation tools. The position will be within the simulation / engineering group and the selected candidate is expected to contribute significantly and pro-actively in developing PWR’s simulation capabilities. This involves performing CFD simulations but also using and developing 1D CFD tools.

Responsibilities and Key tasks:

The Simulation/CFD Engineer role within PWR will have the following responsibilities and tasks:

  • Development of internal simulation tools to aid thermal and pressure drop predictions of PWR products
  • Improvement of code to gain efficiency of internally developed tools
  • Management of projects running in parallel, to ensure they are completed in a professional and timely manner
  • Liaise with external global customers by phone, video call or in person, to discuss technical information related to projects

Skills and Experience:

To be successful in this role the candidate will have prior experience as a Simulation/CFD. PWR is looking for a driven person to join our dedicated and results driven team, with a flexible working approach to meet the demands of high-level global customers. The ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with other internal departments is fundamental to ensuring success.

Other Skills and Experience for the role are:

  • Minimum of engineering degree in mechanical or chemical engineering,
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of the python programming language,
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of object-oriented programming (i.e. definition of classes and methods),
  • Experience with CFD simulations and OpenFOAM in particular,
  • Show sound knowledge of thermal engineering and thermodynamics,
  • Show interest in CFD as a tool for the design of superior products,
  • Have the willingness to learn from his peers,
  • Be open minded and have the willingness to make a difference in a very competitive market,
  • The willingness to work overtime when required by ongoing projects.

Desired Skills and Experience

In addition, the following requirements would be a benefit:

  • Experience in a similar or related position (ideally in motorsport or other sport categories)
  • Knowledge of the C++ programming language,
  • Experience with a CAD system such as SolidWorks, CATIA or NX,
  • Knowledge on how to use a software repository (Mercurial is preferred),
  • Experience with GUI programming (PyQT is preferred),
  • Experience with GT-Suite / GT-Power,
  • Experience in using the ParaView software,
  • Experience in compiling software from source code,
  • Experience with VBA programming,
  • Experience with other CFD software packages
  • Good understanding of fluid-flow physics applied to internal and external flow,
  • Experience with the simulation of conjugate heat-transfer,
  • Good mathematical skills (linear algebra / numerical algorithms)
  • Experience with Linux and shell-scripting,
  • Experience with the Django software package.
