The Senior Network Technology Engineer is a position within the Transit Chapter and reports to the Systems Engineering Manager. The role is part of a Chapter Team within nbn’s Systems Engineering and Operations (SEO) division.

Each Chapter develops new nbn network capabilities to enable nbn business and operational objectives.

The Transit Chapter specialises in Transit Network technology including Routing and Switching, Transport and Lawful Intercept networks.

A bit about your role

The Senior Network Technology Engineer defines and maintains the overall technology architecture including associated standards and NFRs. Develops a roadmap of (any) changes required to ensure that the technology meets its operational objectives and aligns to the broader technology landscape.

The Senior Network Technology Engineer ensures overall technology change is performed efficiently taking into account change timing and degree of parallel activity and ensures the quality of change via appropriate quality control processes and in reference to applicable standards, guidelines and good practice.

The Senior Systems Engineer also develops and maintains peer engagement with:

  • Lead Design Engineers in the chapter to manage chapter technology backlogs and chapter standards.
  • Delivery Manages to facilitate platform release alignment.
  • External stakeholders to ensure chapter standards and practices are integrated with stakeholder processes.
  • Value Stream Architects and Network Architects to ensure alignment to Solution Architecture, Enterprise Architecture and technology roadmaps

A bit about you

You will have significant experience in in design, configuration, testing and deploying network technologies in a carrier environment.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate a in deep understanding of end-to-end telecommunication network solutions, subject matter expertise in one or more telecommunication network domain and experience and knowledge in nbn Aggregation, NCN, SCN, SEM, Transport and LI systems and protocols.

Experience in authoring technical documents along with experience presenting solution architecture and solution designs targeted to audiences with differing levels of technical capability for the purposes of obtaining consensus and agreement.

In addition to this, your experience will also include:

  • Has a thorough understanding of recognised generic industry bodies of knowledge and specialist bodies of knowledge as necessary. Has gained a thorough knowledge of the domain of the organisation. Is able to apply the knowledge effectively in unfamiliar situations and actively maintains own knowledge and contributes to the development of others. Rapidly absorbs new information and applies it effectively. Maintains an awareness of developing practices and their application and takes responsibility for driving own development.
  • Communicates fluently, orally and in writing, and can present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Plans, schedules and monitors work to meet time and quality targets.
  • Facilitates collaboration between stakeholders who share common objectives.
  • Fully understands the importance of security to own work and the operation of the organisation. Seeks specialist security knowledge or advice when required to support own work or work of immediate colleagues.
