JOB DESCRIPTION

At Canva, our mission is to democratize design and empower creativity and visual expression for every person, on every platform. Since its launch in April 2013, our user base has grown exponentially, amassing over 30 million users in over 100 languages, making us one of the world's fastest-growing technology companies. Canva is used by millions of people every single day and reliability is a feature - it's crucial for us to ensure that they can rely on our platform at all times.

You'll be joining the Test Platform Team, a sub-team of the broader Infrastructure Group responsible for providing developers and QA with tooling to develop features with confidence, free from errors. The Test Platform team envisions a world where time or fulfilment is not stolen by software errors. We want to ensure Canva employees enjoy and have confidence in their testing tools so that Canva's users have a delightful experience. We never get time back, so we want to maximise the time Canva employees and users use and that it is never wasted.

As a member of the team you will be working closely with engineers and QA to understand their issues to unblock them and improve their effectiveness. Your day-to-day work includes integrating third party testing tools into our pipelines and developing new testing tools. You will guide our team in researching and implementing API compatibility testing tools such as contract testing to ensure our services continue working during releases.

  • Lead the adoption of new frameworks across engineering
  • Use data and metrics to drive decisions

  • Work with engineers and QA to identify improvements and opportunities
Requirements
  • Experience implementing a contract testing solution
  • Five-plus (5+) years of commercial experience developing complex, distributed web applications
  • Most of our backend code is in Java, but we're pragmatic - we'll use whatever makes the most sense to complete a task (previous experience with other languages is great!)
  • Firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns. You'd be surprised how often these things come up here at Canva!
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills, both written and verbal
Nice to have; Not required!: * Automation experience with Selenium and Appium
  • BDD experience, preferably with Cucumber
  • Performance, especially load testing
