QA Automation Engineer (Unit Testing, Agile, Java, JavaScript, Cloud)

My client, a global commerce platform provider, is urgently seeking a QA Automation Engineer with a software engineering background to make a significant technical contribution to their high-performing team, and support the delivery of various projects, including new, high-profile platforms. You’ll enjoy working in a start-up environment with the financial backing and support of a well renowned US venture capitalist. This will be a challenging role that requires Software Engineering skills first and foremost to implement features, combined with automation experience and ability to advise on the type of testing to use in real world scenarios.

The Role

As a QA Automation Engineer you will be ​responsible for designing and implementing software to accelerate product development. You’ll be focused on unit testing, and need to have had substantial exposure to low-level testing tools (e.g. Jest), as well as a solid understanding of Mocks and Contracts, to work on interesting engineering problems aiming to ensure high quality software. ​Exceptional technical expertise and practical experience building large-scale distributed systems will be required to automate a flexible multi-tenant PaaS platform. Defining the standards to drive a ​robust test automation framework and our Continuous Delivery systems


Responsibilities
  • Design and implement ​test strategies and ​automation frameworks that test ​complex software platforms ​across multiple devices and platforms
  • Establish processes and tool sets to maintain test software that produce actionable metrics and enforce quality goals
  • Shape product requirements into well defined testable specifications
  • Advocate QA automation in your team
  • Working closely with other Engineers, Product managers and operations staff to ensure quality of our products.
  • Passion in technology, launching product and the ability to inspire passion in others 
What we’re looking for
  • 1+ years of experience as a Software Engineer in Test (SDET) or Software Engineer is essential 
  • Software development experience in Java and/or JavaScript
  • Experience of front-end testing and exposure to front-end testing tools (e.g. Cypress). Selenium testing experience on the back-end. 
  • 2+ years of experience test automation
  • Proficiency on Unit Testing and hands-on experience with low-level Unit Testing tools (e.g. Jest)
  • Demonstrated experience in test framework design and development
  • Demonstrated CI / CD experience is a must
  • Experience working in a cloud based environment such as AWS
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge on ​Mocks and Contracts to test a microservice architecture
  • Technical understanding of HTTP (REST/GraphQL), Databases, messaging, schema and interface definitions
  • A degree in Computer Science or similar, or ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge

Nice to have (but not essential):


  • Experience in commerce and/or retail, as well as a start-up / scale-up environment
