What you’ll contribute to

The Senior Development Engineer is primarily responsible for developing Toyota Accessories and/or Vehicle Conversion and independently co-ordinating development activities to ensure performance, quality, cost, and timing requirements are met.

You will be liaising with external stakeholders and suppliers to ensure all technical requirements are met and the final design is approved as per the project schedule.

You will initially be engaged for a 12-month Max Term Role, based in our Port Melbourne office but will relocate to Altona North as of mid-2021.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Responsible for leading and managing key Projects, including establishing the development schedule based on project milestones and monitoring project status/implementing countermeasures to resolve any issues.

  • Lead and review innovative concept development including technical feasibility studies and benchmarking of complex and critical parts. As well as preparing technical documentation for quotation and supplier selection.

  • Oversee Design Validation and approval including establishing evaluation requirements and creating design verification matrix.

  • Investigate and implement innovative evaluation methods to replicate real-world criteria.

  • Coordinate and conduct Design Verification testing and on-vehicle fitment and functional checks.

  • Oversight of budget and cost management, including providing technical data for quotation review and supplier selection activities. Actively investigate and implement cost saving initiatives.

  • Responsible for supplier liaison including leading regular supplier status meetings to understand progress and support as required.

  • Lead field problem resolution through actively seek field performance feedback to build quality into design at concept stage ad implement countermeasures.

  • Assist in standardisation and reporting through proactively creating standard operating procedures as required and deliver regular reports on project status to Management.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (as recognised by Australian Institute of Engineers)

  • Project Management experience

  • 4 years + Design & Development Engineering experience in Automotive Industry

  • Ability to interpret engineering documents and drawings for complex/critical parts

  • Understanding of Automotive Systems (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic etc)

  • Understanding of CAE principles and applications in Design Validation

  • CAD capability - CATIA V5 (intermediate)

  • MS Office capability – Word/Excel/Access (basic /intermediate)
