What's the opportunity?
Sicona Battery Technologies is currently seeking an enthusiastic Process Engineer to join our growing team in Wollongong. Working closely with the CTO and existing research team, this role will be responsible for implementing pilot plant process design, pilot plant operations, research and product development for our unique in-house technologies in the areas of lithium ion battery anodes, additives, binders and electrolytes.
Key responsibilities include:
· Engage with our EPCM in relation to the commissioning and running of a new battery materials pilot plant based in Wollongong. This includes involvement in the on-site build, commissioning, ongoing operation and site-management roles.
· Engage on behalf of the company with external technical stakeholders and potential technical and commercial partners in the design of demonstration and commercial plants, located both here in Australia and Europe and North America.
· Undertake research and development projects to commercialise new technologies in the lithium ion battery anode space.
· Provide troubleshooting and hands-on support for ongoing projects within the research team.
· Actively communicate with the Project Team throughout to ensure a coordinated design and completion of deliverables.
· Actively and meticulously engage in record keeping, report writing and development of Intellectual Property.
· Ensure work complies to applicable Australian codes/standards of practise to include OH&S and quality control, accepted engineering practices and Company standards.
Skills and experience:
Required:
· Degree qualification (PhD preferable) in Chemical or Materials Engineering.
· At least 3 years demonstrated Process engineering experience within the EPC industry.
· At least 3 years demonstrated experience in plant design or operation at the pilot, demonstration, or commercial scales.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· A high attention to detail and quality of work.
· Highly motivated and self-driven, with a willingness to learn and grow and develop their career further.
· A willingness to be based in Wollongong or commute there on a daily basis, and on occasion to travel interstate or overseas.
Preferable:
· Hands on pilot plant operational experience
· Battery materials processing, slurry formation and testing procedures. Cell formation and configurations, coin cells, spiral wound cells, 18650, pouch cells.
· Experience in common physical and materials characterisation techniques (SEM, TEM, TGA, BET etc)
· An understanding of the importance of Intellectual Property.
· Exposure to the battery industry beyond the laboratory.
