This role is responsible for planning, coordinating & directing activities & has technical accountability for interpreting, organising, & coordinating engineering work for the Baggage Handling System. This role works within an integrated client project management team & is accountable for the delivery of the design work packages developed by by 3rd party engineering consultants/design firms. Assists management of contractor procurement process including formation & assembly of tender documents. Reports to the Lead Project Engineer & ensures the designers deliver to the schedule.
Responsibilities
- Directs & provides technical & administrative guidance, discipline & consultant Engineers in management of engineering
- Keeps informed on the status of project issues with respect to schedule, budget, work quality & client satisfaction & contributes leadership, experience & expertise in the solution of difficult problems
- Reports on Engineering performance on cost, progress, performance, risk & technical issues
- Coordinates, facilitates & manages interfaces
- Manages & monitors 3rd Party designers performance with relation to schedule/cost control
- Coordinates review & client acceptance of 3rd Party produced design documents
- Coordinates supply of technical information
- Responsible for engineering elements of a project capital estimate (proposals & execution) quantities & budgets
- Reviews major changes/deviations in project scope, project material quantities, budget or schedule & assists with defining the change, obtaining accurate estimates of hours involved & recommending budget adjustment
- Participates in project planning prior to proposals to provide technical guidance in the engineering & construction
Qualifications & Skills
- Recognised degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, specialised courses in relevant engineering or an appropriate engineering discipline
- A professional license in an engineering discipline or a license to practice architecture from a recognised licensing board preferred
- Strong aviation industry experience, experience in Australia preferred
- Strong Baggage Handling System experience
- Experience managing engineering design efforts including management of 3rd Party designers or engineers with a min 5 aviation projects
- Broad knowledge of aviation industry/regulatory codes & standards, project controls & design criteria in all engineering disciplines
- Extensive technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods & materials & applications of building information modelling, 3-D CAD/CAE to engineering problems
- Knowledge of activities & operations in other functions including procurement, construction, ES&H & quality assurance
- Extensive work experience including supervision, preferably in the project & staff design engineering or architectural design or other relevant types of engineering such as systems startup, field engineering or engineering/construction firms
