You will be required to deliver a range of services relating to Structures Management and assist in the development of risk management strategies

Accountabilities include:

  • Develop departmental policies, strategies and practices for managing and optimising bridge and other structural assets in the road network.
  • Provide advice and report on the cost, performance and risk management of bridges and other structures across the state’s road network.
  • Plan, execute and report on inspections and investigations on highway projects and implement monitoring activities for the safest and economic provision of transport infrastructure.
  • Provide engineering and professional consulting services on the operation of structural assets including the execution of structural investigations (comprising assessment, inspection, analysis and reporting), and development of bridge Structure Management Plans.
  • Prepare proposals to conduct structures inspections, structures condition rating, load capacity assessments and reporting to TMR Districts and Local Government Authorities (LGA’s).
  • Maintain a broad knowledge of the structure's lifecycle and asset management principles and how they relate to the management of TMR infrastructure.
  • Contribute to strategic network management through analysis of structure inventory, capacity, condition and critical structure maintenance data extracted from relevant databases such as the Bridge Information System (BIS).
  • Identify, analyse and provide creative solutions to problems and liaise and communicate effectively with TMR officers at all levels, external groups and individuals on matters relating to the effective and efficient management of structures assets on the road network.
  • Undertake key reporting responsibilities including current and future funding needs analysis, monthly structure management reporting and actively participating and contributing into relevant level forums.
  • Manage Structures Management projects and tasks within a self-managed team environment.
  • Interpret inspection reports for bridges of various materials and drilling reports for timber bridges to determine the effect of the current condition of a structure on the original design and load capacity with emphasis on safety and performance.
  • Undertake bridge and other structural inspections in accordance with the relevant legislation, safety and engineering considerations as implemented by the Structures Inspection Manual.
  • Manage the structural load capacity assessments of heavy vehicle applications in the Structural Assessment System (SAS) and provide subsequent technical advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Undertake research and contribute to the development and retention of engineering expertise within Transport and Main Roads in the field of structural asset management.
  • Contribute to the management of Element 19 – Bridge and Culvert Servicing and Rehabilitation.
  • Prepare written correspondence including reports, briefing notes, submissions, briefing papers and other documents as required.
  • Contribute to a team culture that supports, empowers and develops its individuals to reach their full potential within TMR.
