Carry out the statutory role of the Municipal Building Surveyor in accordance with Building Act 1993

Your new role
* Carry out the statutory role of the Municipal Building Surveyor in accordance with the provisions of the Building Act 1993.

* Provide strategic leadership and planning to ensure that Council's Building Services are provided in accordance with the Council Plan, Business Plan and within budgetary requirements and constraints.

* Increase public awareness and compliance of Building Regulations and Planning requirements.

* Provide leadership and manage the resources of the Building Services Unit and its interactions with internal and external stakeholders to maximise the Unit's contribution to the Planning and Development Department and the entire organisation

* Ensure that Building Services staff are professionally managed in accordance with the Council policies and practices, budgetary requirements and constraints.

Supervision and Staff Support

* Directly supervise unit staff who report directly to this position.

* Encourage the development of a team culture both within the Unit and across the organisation.

* Ensure performance plans, feedback and performance management processes are undertaken with all staff within the Building Unit in accordance with Council's staff performance management program.

* Ensure that staff within the work unit are professionally managed in accordance with the policies and practices established by Council, budgetary requirements and constraints, and as directed by senior management.

Communication & Reporting

* Foster and promote a culture of high performance, effective communication and accountability amongst all staff within the Unit and across all departments.

* Effectively represent the Shire in state and regional forums in relation to building initiatives.

* Be able to facilitate workshop sessions and present confidently, clearly and succinctly to staff groups, council, managers and the community.

Leadership & Management

* Be well prepared, organised and deliver on tasks/projects agreed to/have been assigned, in a timely manner without reminders.

* Monitor progress and performance against delegated departmental business plan actions.

* Contribute to the development and achievement of corporate goals for the Unit.

* Co-ordinate projects and processes; proactively communicating and seeking input and resources from across the organisation and externally as necessary.

* Identify issues and workable, cost effective solutions.

* Identify policies and procedures needed for the Unit and develop and review these for consideration of senior management.

* Provide regular advice to the department Manager on current building issues impacting on Council.

* Take responsibility for and contribute to the effectiveness of the whole organisation with a focus on ensuring that the Business Unit is implementing corporate objectives, values and culture.

* Develop, manage and regularly report on the Business Unit's budget.
